On MBWorld, there is a gentleman who was contemplating trading his SL600 for an SL65 or CL65. He also owns an SL500, and I recommended a Ferrari 360 if he's looking for a sports car, and he responds:

"360 Modena and Spyder are slower than my SL600, as proven by the video the winged F360 took on a E55 and pulled a 13.4 Lame."

I responded, "Lame!? By your statement, I see that you have no interest in a real sports car. Handling, sound, and feel are a big part of the sensory overload Ferrari experience. No MB can deliver that; that's why they focus on monster hp, which can easily obtain even more hp."

His final response, "Im sorry. 13.4, too me anyways, is extremly lame! I would hate to pay 200K for a Ferrari and than be smoked by a Camaro Z28, stock at that. And, I beg to differ, the comfort a Mercedes, can't be beaten. Do you reckon the enzo has massage seats? Lumbar? Heated/Cooled? So, you can take, your 'real sportscar' and enjoy your feel, and sound, 13 seconds at a time.

BTW: Sound? Ferrari, by far has the most annoying pitch ever. Glorious? Yes, indeed. Just not a fan of 9,000 RPMs. I personally like the sound of a SL55 over that of a F360, both of which I've heard.

Thanks for your comments, though. Appreciated."

Hey, to each his own, but I found this quite humorous, and I'm not a Benz hater (I'm getting one soon). Even though these cars and people making laughable comments like these has been discussed in the past, I think this would stir up some good responses :)

He wants the rush of acceleration and the luxury with less of price tag and the less effort it takes to produce with a retractable hard top.

Speed, luxury, and functionality are a part of the SL600 overload experience.

The 360 isn't known for its glorious exhaust note.

That someone would prefer to drive something other than a Ferrari I don't particularly see as laughable.

If he wanted a dyed in the wool sports car, he could pick up a GT2 and really have some fun.

    Apples and Oranges, IMHO.

One stirs the soul and the other strives to isolate the driver. Massage seats in an Enzo? Whatever credability that guy had was thrown out the window with that comment.

What kind of credability is that? An SL55 will go around the Nurburgring at the same lap time as a Ferrari 360 and still massage/warm/cool his ass in luxury all the way back home at the end of the day.

The only thing saving the Ferrari now is the 6 speed, the Italian heritage, and the asthetics because its not winning points anywhere else.

The Mercedes is the wife and the Ferrari is the mistress; the performance and perfection of a Mercedes arouses love as it is witnessed on a daily basis but then on the other hand who would want a mistress that isn't full of trouble doesn't have expensive taste and isn't full of cheap manners? :)

Logically speaking Italians should design the cars and Mercedes should engineer them but practically speaking Ferrari would go down if that ever came to fruition... why? because the cars wouldn't have any problems.
Ferraris are the biggest tease, can you hear them whisper while you drive them:"If you just spend another 10k, I won't be bad anymore, then (and only then) will I really love you!"

hhmm I wonder why it is so easy for me to describe a ferrari... :)

I think CMY's response shows why the post was funny. Not that not wanting to drive a Ferrari is laughable, but his comparison.

Sunny's right, Ferrari offers many other cars that are cheaper than a late model 360 that are more of a sensory overload, and the GT2 is one of my favorite cars as well.

If it were you or I, we'd take the 360 and not look back. But his ass needs the loving touch of MB leather and lumbar, so he can keep it.

For the money being spent on these cars if they weren't being bought second hand, I'd rather have an F40 and a beater S600. Who's with me?

    What a maroon!!

I haven't looked at quarter mile times in ages but I'm sure same year for same year, Ferrari's best will always beat Mercedes best. But, what's the point anyway, is the man drag racing? Does he want an overpowered grocery getter or a sports car? An SL 65 is something I would consider for my girlfriend and would have little interest in driving myself.

If you want raw horsepower per dollar, may I suggest the new 427 Z06 Vette. I believe that has 500 HP and will probably be fairly hard to beat in the quarter mile.

Sports cars should be styling leaders, not followers. Sports cars should have some proud racing heritage. Sports cars should have some degree of exclusivity, not just in power but in appearance. That SL 65 looks just like the SL 500 with a few badging exceptions, the same car driven by half of the housewives in Beverly Hills.

Sports cars should be indifferent to creature comforts. Be happy it has a radio.

I want my sports cars sporty and my luxury cars luxurious. No hybrids or crossovers.

But, you know that old saying. If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand. This guy is just another one of those "Flavor of the Month" fools.

No marque will ever have the pedigree, status, raw styling, heritage, racing technology, and indescribable feel of a Ferrari. They are the greatest machines ever built and always will be.

Amen to that, I think somebody should take that guy for a ride in a Ferrari and then see what he thinks after he feels a car that can turn sharply as well as go straight.
