I took off the old raggedy fabric hose and replaced it with a flexible stiff impermeable hose. The car sounded AMAZING, the inlet growl is soooooo sweetly FANTASTIC - it is shockingly amazing....

Why would th eold one rob this engine of th music it can produce? Try it yourself - it is fantastic (and the revving and acceleration is somewhat better).

The pipe is a little wider than the older one, not smooth (thus generates plenty of turbulence) but also did not collapse in places as did the OEM one. The OEM would also release a fine "cloud" of sparkling mist, making me wonder what kind of material it was made of.... asbestos?

Have I done something that will kill my car - or is this just a great way to crank up the volume?

I don't see the harm in your setup if the hose does not have any problems with the engine compartment temperatures. I'd probably paint it so it doesn't stand out so much, but if you like the way it works, stay with it.

The metalic rattle you may have heard is from the keys you left on the airbox...

Hose is not abestos, but it does demp the inlet noise a bit.
And no worries: this is a improvement! (exempt for the color...)

    Regards, Ben.
