    Hi guys,
Here's a strange one for you, and this has happened twice so far...

So Im driving my 84 QV, park and have a coffee. After an hour I get in the car and notice the clock stopped 2 minutes before, I put the key in, turn the ignition, and NOTHING at all.
I pop the front bonnet, disconnect the red battery cable, reconnect it and the clock is working and she fires up.

    WEIRD

A week later i open the garage, pop in the drivers side and notice the clock has JUST stopped, turn the key and nothing. Again i disconnect and reconnect the red battery cable and she fires up perfectly.

Has this happened to anyone on here?

Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

    Thanks in advance guys.....

Are you talking about the positive red cable direct from the battery (+) terminal or the red plastic quick disconnect for the ground?

The first on my list of "usual suspects" would be corrosion in the cable connection to which you refer. I would clean that connector thoroughly and, before reconnecting, put some dielectric (silicone) grease on the metal parts of the connection. The grease will greatly retard future corrosion. If that connection needs attention, all the related battery connections are suspect as well. I would disconnect both battery cables, clean the connectors and the batt terminal with a wire terminal cleaning brush (any parts store) and, again before reconnecting put some dielectric grease on the terminals and the connector.

FWIW, ground connections are the first "usual suspect" in such problems.

Tighten ground cable to battery. It takes very little looseness to cause this issue.

The quick win is to go back to your car 2 minutes earlier ;-)

If you’re easily removing the + terminal, then dirt corrosion and grease might be giving you a bad connection, and when running the vibration may be keeping it in contact.

That said, I wonder if you haven’t got an upstream connection issue and by removing the cable and reconnecting your just getting the other end to remake contact? The fact it’s not cutting out whilst driving (yet) makes me think that the momentum is having a positive effect.

I don’t recall enough about where the main + goes first after the battery. I’m also unsure at what point it crosses over the - ; so that by ‘jiggling’ the red at the battery when you refit, it could be ‘jiggling’ the black further along and re-making good a poor ground.

Rebuilding the battery disconnect and lots of the earths (grounds) did a wonder to my Q.V. (mondi) from an electrical perspective.

Although this is rare, I'll mention it. It's possible for the terminal on the battery itself to break free of the battery case and cause poor connection.

So although I think it is the carca own connection, just double-check that your battery terminals are solid.

Me thinks the car hears you comming. Try sneaking up quietly from behind and slide gently into the seat. You'll have to move fast though...these ponies can be skiddery. I've had a few four-legged ones that I had to hide the halter behind my back and lure him up with some oats in the other hand. Try not to jingle the car keys as you approach. Let us know if this helps any. Thanks. Jq.
