But now i despise it. Only reason i don't fully switch to Chrome is the lack of extensions but even that is changing now. As soon as they release adblock plus and autopager for chrome i'm there

Note that i don't even have any tabs open. This happens on a regular basis for no reason (usually under a "heavy" load but nothing extremely resource consuming). Its actually gotten worse since the release of the new version a few days ago. I have 2gb of ram and usual running mem usage of firefox is around 100k-150k max. However, it regularly hits 600k+ and even hit 1.2gb a while back before i ctl+alt'd it

(and yes, i've done all the "fixes" that are meant to prevent the memory leak)

I have been having so much trouble with the new Firefox. It crashes all the time especially when I open more than 2-3 tabs.

Do you run an extension named Ghostery by any chance?

Have you uninstalled FF then deleted everything in C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Then reinstalled with a fresh copy of 3.6 and then gone back and install the extensions one at a time to see if its any of them?

I run 20+ tabs everyday and have around 20 addons loaded, its sitting @ 300mb at the moment. I use XP as well.

Chrome still isn't as secure to use as FF or Opera and there is 1 exploit for 4.x and 2 exploits for 3.x which are yet to be patched.

I will try. I'm hesitant to do that because i've customized firefox so much and i don't want to loose my custom settings (including custom lines in about:config)

I went back to Safari because of the over customization, also because it ran slower.

    IE + IE + Firefox + Firefox + Firefox + Firefox = Opera.

Used Firefox for two years, then stumpled upon Opera. Never going back. Hands down the best browser with tons of intelligent functions.

Yup, seeing the same thing on a Mac running firefox. Used to run a bunch of different Firefox windows and not have any problems. Now, using system monitor, I can see that at times Firefox is using huge amounts of my memory. I just close it, and start over.

Safari doesn't do some things I need it to do. So for now I'll stick with FireFox. There is a simple FTP program called FireFTP that is a firefox extension. I like it, can I wouldn't want to do without it. Opera might be worth a try.

I've been noticing the same problem lately and I have very few add-ons for firefox. I'll be giving Opera a try as I can't stand Safari

Yeah I know, I have that issue as well sometimes. You can always backup the profiles before deleting them. The test here is to see if its the custom settings that is causing the issues. Maybe do a screenie of the lines as well.

    I use (and love) Opera.

I thought Firefox would be good, but it is bloated and pig slow just like IE is.

Opera is clean, fast, snappy, with lots of excellent features. Every time I go back to IE I get frustrated that it just doesn't "work" as well as Opera does.

Give it a try, I think you will like it.

No. Ghostery is just known for memory leak. Disable all your extensions and add them back one at a time would be a good step in trying to eliminate memory leaks.

As an aside to this post, if running xp or vista, and you want speed up your computer try this:

    Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance>Visual Effects>Adjust for Best Performance

You can always change it back if you don't like the way the display looks.

no issues with FF, and mine as i am on here only shows 122,000 k usage.

i am running 8 gigs of physical ram, 16 gigs in dual channel , and one gig (512, 512) of video ram with twin evga 8800GT video cards.

will look into Opera, but FF is working fine for me. i only have a few addons.

With the latest FF upgrade I am starting to notice problems with mine as well. IE is slow, but now FF is giving me headaches. Maybe Opera is next?
