I am jealous of all you boxer guys doing your own work. I know I'm not capable of a resto like Paul did on his 308, or the technical expertise of Brian, but I was a decent shade tree mechanic back in the day. (put an 060 over 454 in a 68 z28, rebuilt a 67 e type) (I know, that was 25 years ago!)..and I have a lift and a full set of snap ons..what can I do on the boxer to become more intimate with her? Can I tackle that water pump? What about rebuilding the front suspension? Any ideas? Thanks guys...mark

Looks like you might do anything you want bad enough. Ferraris are special cars and deserve special care but are nevertheless cars. They have all the same basic parts as any other cars (although some otherwise simple jobs require you to remove the engine from the car). If you take a measured approach to a project and understand your limitations you can do much of the maintenance on your car yourself. It doesn't hurt if you understand a little Italian and have a broad "car guy" background. The Ferrari manuals are not complete documents (particularly the earlier cars) and some are only in Italian. Much is left unsaid and requires you to "figure it out". I have also encountered eroneous information (bad translation?) that my experience spotted before trouble ensued (such as torque specs that would have snapped the bolts right off). Parts aren't usually available at the corner Napa and things like a water pump are often just the bearing and seal (you need to know what to do with them). If you aren't in a hurry and can afford expensive "do-overs" go for it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
