Only if the cooling system is malfunctioning.
Morrie- I had my 308 overheat once, stupid me, not knowing the correct procedure on changing the coolant, I just bled the system from the valve on the engine thinking it was such an easy job. When driving back from work in stop and go traffic on a hot day, a driver passing me up pointed to the rear of my car, I looked back and saw the billowing smoke, looked at my water temp gauge, way too hot, GULP !! pulled over to the right lane, turned on the heater to max, noticed a small decrease in the temp, made it to a gas station a few blocks away, popped the bonnet and saw how the coolant overflow hose empties right near the hot exhaust header (stupid design) I've read here that the hot header can cause the coolant to ignite causing a fire in the engine bay. Thanks to all the fine folks at F-Chat I learned that a Fire extinguisher was Must have in the cockpit, so I did have mine handy at this time in case of ignition. Then read a post here on the correct procedure to bleed the coolant line, which would include the bleeder valve on the radiator, DUH ! Now no more problems of over heating. Many thanks to all of those who take their time to post their knowledge here, I would almost certainly have had a Ferrari-Kabob If i hadn't known about this site. Thanks for sharing. Mark
Mark, Thanks for the info. I have been looking for a 328 but good cars at anything close to reasonable prices are very hard to find in the current market. I'm now considering 308QVs as well. Morrie
