Hi everybody, I want to share this little moment of happiness under the Italian sun that I had yesterday, when I was driving my just purchased GTB turbo #80173 to Maranello, where it will be serviced at Toni shop.
Nothing is better than relaxing with a pleasant trip to Maranello with your new Ferrari, in my opinion.

Yes, you are right: there could be something else even better, but nothing you can post here... ;)

    Ciao!

ANOTHER Turbo, Alberto? A new one? Take care, or otherwise you might wake-up one day as an official car dealer...
Great to see a bit of Maranello sun these days, we need it!

    Yes, Bruno: another!
I sold my (excellent) former GTB turbo to an USA enthusiast few months ago and I couldn't resist without its boost anymore.

I think this one I got is the only one 1988-89 sample that leaved the Factory without A/C and without ABS, so it's very light and handles very well, at least for my level of driving attitude: you can feel the weight difference immediately.

    Ciao

I must say I'm not surprised, it echoes what I've read at the time: the "revised suspension" (= "serie II") cars) were said at the time to handle slightly better than the "serie 1" cars, and if you take away more or less 65 lbs (= 30 kilos: 15 for the ABS and 15 for the A/C), that makes sense. I myself drove a "normally aspired" 328 GTB, série II, revised suspension, but without ABS and without A/C also, about 10 years ago, and it was hands-down the best of the lot, no question.

The A/C system weights much more than 15 kg: there are the compressor, the compressor mounts, the pipes from the compressor to the condenser and to the evaporator, the condenser and the evaporator themselves. I never weighted them, but I would guess 30-40 kg for the A/C system and 15 kg for the ABS: the car is 50 kg lighter (110 lbs) or even more, almost as a passenger weight.

    ciao

That's happiness? I was expecting a picture of you driving through the beautiful hills of Tuscany.

You visited my friend Luca Fornetti shop, a great and famous shop in front of Ferrari historic gate.

And only a Ferrari big enthusiast could drive through Maranello with an open-top Ferrari in January: well done!

The picture location, SS12 Abetone - Brennero, heading south leaving San Prospero village: this road connects Abetone pass, between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany, with Brenner pass, between Austria and Italy. Keeping this road, after 40 km you will see on the left the Ferrari historic gate.

    Ciao

I always thought it was Colin Chapman who first said simplify and add lightness. I just looked it up and it turns out it wasn’t Chapman or Heinemann but some guy called Gordon Hooton.

The quote usually attributed to Chapman is: "light is right".
Heinemann definitively used "simplify, and add only lightness"; he had another one at the door of his office saying something to the tune of: "if your idea means less complication, less weight, more performance, come in: I would be glad to discuss it with you".
I need a few days to find the reference, as I don't have all my books with me now, but I'll try to find it in a few days.

In my opinion that's an idea that many had before all those you all mentioned: we always remember something only when it was repeated by anyone very well known by everybody, but I do think that at least Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" fighter project leader Jiro Horikoshi shared that opinion much in advance... ;)

Indeed, and just for the record, the team he was leading was:

Ing. Sone Yoshitoshi and Tojo Teruo, mathematics applications
Ing. Yoshikawa Yoshio and Sone Yoshitoshi, structure
Ing. Inoue Denichiro and Tanaka Shotaro, engine installation
Ing. Hatakenaka Yoshimi, auxiliaries and armament installation
Ing. Kato Sadahiko and Mori Takeyoshi, ancilliaries and landing gear.

    Well, back to the topic...
