One of my 2 maltese had some skin spots so we took her to the vet.. They said she has all of the symptoms of Cushing's disease.

Has anyone experience this with their dogs. We are getting here tested with a cortizone shot on Monday..

I have a neighbor who's 8 year-old Border Collie was diagnosed 6 years ago and is actually doing very well with a combination of meds and healthy diet.

Here are some articles about it:

Make sure you consult with both wholistic and conventional vets. You probably can't avoid depending on medication, but in cases like that you can tremendously improve how a dog responds by providing them with the healthiest diet possible. Good luck.

I'm no vet, but I do happen to be a couple of months from a human MD... and come from a family with several maltese of their own.

In glossing over this site, it seems to be reasonably well-written and accurate WRT Cushing's (again from a people, not pooch medicine standpoint).

Again, in any case the prognosis/treatment/management depends on the origin of the cortisol excess.

Finally, if you dont feel comfortable with a vet's opinion, get a second one!!!!!!!!!!!! While she was away on vacation, my sister's maltese developed pancreatitis. The incompetant vet IV fluid overloaded the poor thing, then advised us to put her down. To make a long story short, we refused and our home vet took over care. 12 months later she's doing better than ever.

    goodluck!

    PS

Save your money and don't buy this garbage! From a conventional medicine standpoint, ingredients are essentially snake-oil at best!
