    Hello V-12 brothers,

It's been a wonderful journey but I'll need to be moving on. In the next week or two I will put together a for sale ad for my car. It is an excellent example that has been maintained and loved; and it will offer a wonderful driving and collector experience for someone who sees its value due to its rarity and uniqueness.

Since this is not a for sale ad, please do not request photos and information publicly here. Instead, please note that I am posting here to see if anyone might be interested before I put the car to stud.

In order to maintain a discussion, perhaps some folks would like to share their ownership experience of the 456 or 456M; and those seeking ownership might ask some questions about the models so we can answer.

I'm strongly considering a 456mGTA vs 6-speed (I hope I got that right) ... regarding the auto trans, does it have a higher level of repair issues compared to stick tranny?

Regarding the other issues, I'm sure I can find on a search of this forum. Thought this would be a good place to drop this question.

GLWS, and feel free to email/ PM me pics and an asking price.

There are many folks on here who enjoy their automatics and haven't had issues. However, it is a well-known fact that any critical issues pertaining to the automatic transmission require a transmission swap. There are no replacement parts, and the job amounts to some $50,000.

On the auto / stick decision, unless you want an automatic, a stick will probably be a better investment and even if it isn't, it will be much easier to sell when you decide to sell it.

Thanks for reply. Holy ****!!! $50k is damn near the entire value of many 456m GTA. Hmm maybe I need to reconsider other than an automatic. Are replacement parts for the 6speed also difficult to acquire?

The 6-speed transmissoon is very well made and replacement parts if necessary are readily available.

Most of the parts in the 456/456M auto are standard GM and they have been pretty reliable if serviced regularly. I have never heard any price approaching $50K related to that auto, which is very well matched to the V12 torque characteristics.

Overall, there are over three times as many 6 speed 456 GTs as GTAs, and it is an even split for the 456M.

I bet there are many GTA trannys laying around after crashed cars. Usually not much problems with them so those who have one wil likely give it away very cheap.

lol, i have an auto 456.... a tranny fix is no where near 50k. for 50k i'll sell you mine....

for a fraction of that you could swap to a manual..... let along the numerous auto trans that are available from parts cars. an amazing number of 456 have been parted out for some reason or another

According to the NHTSA, there were only 20 US MY2002 456Ms and 32 MY2003s. Pretty rare. Figure about half were MGTAs, and that makes a 2003 MGT pretty rare, likely only 10-16 US versions.

For some reason or another.... Quite a few have been crashed, burned, drowned - or worn out beyond economic upkeep.

    Hi Taz,

I have a 2001 456M GT 6speed, US car. Do you by chance know how many US models were built.

    Thanks for your help.

I'm not ready to do anything yet or i'd be right on this, but I'm curious if you are getting another car or just selling and going in a different direction? I sold my vintage car a few years ago and have regretted it ever since.

Just going in a different direction. I know for sure I'll regret this... how can one not? It's a stunningly beautiful machine which also happens to be extremely rare... the sound of the gated shifter in a V12 Ferrari is irreplaceable and way different than the sound in V8 Ferraris... for the V12s the gate is of a different sort of metal compound - maybe a heavier composition, who knows... but it's unmistakeable. Someone else will enjoy the car now - it's in good hands, and that comforts me some. Selling F-cars has always been sad for me. Next up will be the Mondial t coupe and possibly the F430 6-speed. The 1995 F355 berlinetta is likely the one to remain forever...

Good news about the sale, however I am curious as to why the 355 over the 430?

The 430 is a wonderful car. So is its value wonderful. I intend to put a few more shekels in the bank with the sale of the 430 and move on.
