    5'11 215 lbs here.

I just started my goal last week.. Haven't eaten a shred of junk food since. lol.

Switched diet to only whole weat bread, loads of various raw veggies, and grilled chicken for protien and some other protien stuff. My lunch/dinner consists of a sub sandwhich with nothing but veggies, and a slice of cheese. I hit the gym 5 days a week for weights, and every day I do 3 sessions of 30 mins (totalling 1.5 hours) of fat burning + cardio.

It makes you feel sooo much better inside. I'm only about 1.5 weeks in yet I can notice a change in my self-esteem and energy levels. I freaking love it. Oh and gaining some mass in the biceps is always a plus :)

My goal? To get into great shape by June. I tore my ACL and MCL and meniscus in the past summer, which rendered me useless til now. I couldn't do any extensive workouts because I was physically incapable... But now that I can do something about it, it's time.

I'm determined to rid myself of this extra flab. I'm in!

    Ok PeterS, you've inspired me.....

I'm taking the Fchat Diet challenge!

    I'm 6' , 190lbs, 32yr....Don't want to lose or gain weight...just want to tighten what I got....Waist size is 33", shoulders 43"......

I just want 1 inch...thats it, 1 inch.....If I can't do that then I suck! My big concern is my lower back problems that have arose over the years...I'm thinking the only way to get rid of them is develop strong ab muscles...

So I'm asking Fchat for help on how to do this....

    I currently....
Do not work out at a gym at all (about 3 years now)
    Fairly Active
Eat out all the time and a fair amount of it is fast food
Drink about 1-2 times a week, both liquor and beer
Eat a lot of meat, everyday, usually turkey, roast beef and ham...not a lot of chicken
Stress levels are moderate to high but there is nothing I can do about that.

What is essential to achieve my goal and what is beneficial?

Can I reverse this? I am trying to gain weight...in the gym. I am 26, 5'11" and 230lbs. I am trying to reach 250lbs by spring/summer. Losing "stored energy" is also my goal as well. I was 240lbs a month ago, the losing fat part is working, and I am getting stronger, curling 50lb dumbbells now. In August, I was 219lbs.

I just went grocery shopping and got all kinds of good stuff, rice cakes, lean/natural meats, tea's, and vitamins. I have also cut out all soda. In addition to the food, I am taking Cell-Tech, Hydroxycut, Anabolic Fuel, and Glucosamine w/ Chrondrotin (for my joints, the Marines and skiing since I was 5 has thouroghly destroyed them).

Tmobileguy: STOP EATING FAST FOOD! Have some applesauce instead. Some hommade rice noodles. Stop eating regular meat, including chicken. Think about what you are buying and buy the natural stuff only. Another thing you can do it hit up Dick's or another sporting goods store and get some dumbbells. Get a light pair and a heavy pair. USE THEM! Go bike riding if possible.

Do you have any experience working out?

I do have a lot of experience working out...I have had personal trainers and took a lot of notes on their specificied work out plans...I just have to get my azz back into the gym...
I have 35lb dumbells that I use for curls and a bike, I figure its a start...and I love applesauce so thats a great idea...
When you say rice noodles...is that like raman noodles?
What about all those protein supplements that all the nutritrien places sell?

No, raman noodles are so unhealthy it is not even funny. I mean, rice cakes, noodles made from rice instead of bread (pasta) (any grocer should have them), things like that. Think about what you are buying at the grocery store, and look at labels.

As far as the protein supplements, that is a good idea as it will build muscle, but I would first start on losing the fat. Otherwise, you will be big and strong, but will not look so hot. I take hydroxycut but I prefer ripped fuel. But everyone is different, you have to use that which works for you.

I would still recommend a light pair of dumbbells (in the 10-15lb range) so you can do flies and other exercises for your shoulders. Also, do some back exercises with the 35's, such as rows. You can also mimick clean and jerks (just from the standing position) with the 35's which will help build the shoulders and traps. Oh, and do get a weight belt, that will assist your lower back.

    Day 1 / 225 pounds:

Had a glass of 1% milk, two eggs and a slice of grilled ham for breakfast. This took the place of my normal couple bowls of cerial. Topped of with a pint of water, breakfast was OK.

FYI, I lost 42 pounds in less than a year by working out and changing my eating habits to five meals a day,(5:30am-drink shake, 10am-drink shake. 12noon-eat lunch, 4pm drink shake and 7pm-eat dinner) three of which consist of Myoplex Lite protein shakes. Your diet should consist of only good carbs and lots of protein... a good rule of thumb is...don't eat it if it is white or comes in a box or bag...Always eat breakfast or drink a protein shake within 30 minutes of waking up...that helps get your metabolism going. I continue to work out 5 days a week and am now trying to gain more muscle, which is much harder than losing fat by the way...especially at my age of 48! Good luck, you can do it...IF...you are consistent with your diet and work out routine. If you have not worked out with weights before, you should hire a trainer for a few months to learn technique...otherwise, you may build up a sweat without doing any good and could in fact hurt yourself.

I'm 6ft, 162 pounds... I'm trying to get back down to 152 by February 23, the day track starts. I mainly eat carbs, lol. I'm just so used to it from XC season that it was hard to get my eating habits to change! Luckily my metabolism somewhat kept up and I only gained a few pounds...

Not much of a big diet change like you guys, but it's still losing weight! I'm cheerin for yall :). My metabolism is, well, higher than you old fogeys' :)p) so I'll probably eat a lot more, but I'll be runnin too!

Running is great exercise if your knees and back can take it. If you can't handle running, there's no problem with walking! My friend (definitely chubby) started going on walks and dieting last year and now he's almost as skinny as I am! :)

Last year I said I was in. Since then I gained 20 pounds. I cannot seem to get going. This weight thing really sucks. I am at least 45 pounds overweight.

Thats it! Tomorrow I am starting again.

    Starting weight 210 I am 5'8"

I just want to get down to the weight I was when I met my future wife.

    My goal 165

    Take pictures.

I've lost 60 pounds in the last 8 months (224 -> 164) and it felt very hard to tell the difference for a while unless I looked at pictures.

    Day 4:

Better than expected. I'll probably drop 5-7 pounds by Monday. Yesterday I munched on healthy stuff through the day, staying in the bounds of the SBD suggestions (nuts, veggies, etc.). Dinner was a huge chicken bowl without the rice and dipping sauce on the side. I did break down and ate two cookies.

Today was horrible! I went to my favorite Chinese - Japanese buffet. I ate what seemed like 8 pounds of grilled chicken chunks, brockree beef and CC Salad. I passed on all the damn sushi which REALLY sucked!

It's 7:00PM and I'm sitting at a Black Angus eating a horrible 16oz New York 'Steak' and a Ceasars that was OK. My boney little waitress noticed I was not eating any carbs and had the nerve to let me know that the Chocolate Lava Cake looked REALLY good in the kitchen......I told her that's where it was going to stay!
