Peter....you are doing a diet; it won't work....deprivation eventually & inevitably fails. Lifestyle changes, changing your diet, incorporating exercise. I would suggest getting yourself a nutritionist and committing to also hiring a personal trainer. The effects of proper diet AND exercise are dramatic.

All the fast weight-loss you achieve on these crash diets will come right back the instant you get off them. A healthy & ideal (far more permanent) loss of weight is a mere 1-2 pounds per week. And again: exercise is critical...it will naturally lower your hunger both physically and mentally.

It's been said already, but exercise, exercise, exercise... Do something sustainable, ie that allows you to do enough of it to burn sufficient calories. I can't run more than maybe 30 min every other day b/c my knees start to hurt too much. So, I bike instead. That type of idea.

There are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. Google the topic and there are tons of charts on how much a given exercise burns. Cycling I use 700cal/hr for example for my body size and pace. Pretty simple, burn off the fat by exercising. It gets more complicated when you get more fit (you start burning muscle when pushing too hard, etc.), but starting out, it's pretty simple.

If you exercise enough, you can eat pretty much anything if you're not trying to become a world class athlete. So, if you had 7 beers on Saturday night, that's fine, but keep in mind, that's a full hours cycling or it's going straight to your ass. (obviously, things aren't 100% efficient, but keep it simple in the beginning)

    Update...

Thanks for putting this thread up PeterS...I have been eating a lot healthier within the last month, no fast food, been taking an all natural fruit and berry juice....

Been taking Hydroxycuts (without Ephedran) for the last 3 weeks as well as working out 4 days a week, crunches everyday and 45min-1hr on the bike everyday keeping my heartrate paced around 120....

All I can say is wow! I haven't weighed myself since I have started but nearly all my stomach fat is gone...I can actually see traces of a six pack which I havent seen in 6 years...My back pain is gone and 2 years ago I slipped a disc and thought that my back would never recover and strengthen...

I still have a long way to go but the results have been astonishing...I will post pics if anyone is interested (of course with the token "Fchat Rocks pic :) )

Anyway, thanks for the advice guys and the little extra push that I needed to get going.

Here's what a friend said about the program I put him through:

It's been over 4 weeks since I started your program. I bet you thought I already fell off the wagon by now. Actually, I'm still on the program and going strong.

    Here's a status report:

    1) I'm still on the 6 meals a day schedule as you suggested and sticking to the food types, supplements and quantities as layout by you. Most of the time, I'm able to keep to the eating time table within one or two hours of each eating period.

    2) I've been drinking at least 1/2 gallon of water per day, some days more: 3/4 - 1 gallon.

    3) I'm walking at least 25 minutes per day, with few exceptions. I've only missed about 5 scattered days over the last 3 weeks.

    5) Although I've done a few tension-rope exercise sessions, I find it difficult to work it into my daily routine. However, I will make this a priority to make it a daily event.

    6) I'm now down to 242 LBS from the original weight of 262 LBS -- 20 LBS in 4 weeks.

    7) Beside having lots more energy, my mental state has improved. In other words, I seem to have a much more positive and consistent out look on live - at home and at work. This was something I didn't expect to happen.

Again, I want to thank you for your time and generosity and providing me the motivation get started.

I want to wish you and your family the very best for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

so did this ever happen? couldn't be bothered searching through a gazillion posts...

as of today i'm on a 10-or-so day blitz. last time i went up the river for kneeboarding i found myself way too weak and heavy to enjoy it for more than 5 minutes, it absolutely killed me! :(

so, i'm going up again on 11th of march, so i have just under two weeks to shed some flab and get some stamina.

weighed myself this morning, 91kg (201lbs). my ideal maintainable weight would be in the mid-low 80's (~185lbs) if i were reasonably fit. will be running every morning and night, plus lots of curls, pushups and will have to finally do some situps, ugh. :(

Right now I'm not working on cutting weight but trying to keep it about the same. I just want to gain more muscle in my abs, chest, shoulders and arms. My legs are fine right now, and I can't do any muscle building with them anyways. I want to gain muscle and lose a bit of the fat in my stomach. For some reason, I have no fat in my face/neck, arms, or legs, but I've got moobs... :p those are the first to go! :)

I gotta take a current pic, but I tipped 185 today! For all those that are trying to shed the pounds, hang in there, it's hard. I contribute my weight loss to not drinking anymore and cutting way back on the fat foods (As I am making potato pancakes tonight!). Now all I gotta do is quit smoking and walk and extra two miles a day with the dog!

Awesome Peter! Unlike some, I'm ok NOT seeing the pictures :D

reading through this thread brought back a lot of memories. Since December 2005 when this thread started, I've dropped just over 35lbs. (198 -> 162lbs, @ 6', or 5'12" as you'd have to say). Better yet, even dropped some much younger racers on the training ride with the cycling coach this morning. I'm 43, they were less than 1/2 that.

Thanks. Not a week goes by that I do not think about having a scotch. I know if I start again, I'll start again.......And so will the weight. I never labeled myself an Alky (Hell, maybe I was), but I drank a bottle of decent single malt every three days, just at dinner and a pop after dinner (It was like water to me), loved it! So $300 a month was going out the window and the weight was piling up!

Keep it up fellas. The problem with 99% of the people out there is they attatch weight loss to vanity instead of health. Most peoples psyche is not strong enough to resist food entirely for vanity. It is strong enough if you sincerely want to get healthy again though. Most of you have some serious food addictions that are very hard to break. The last hurdle is being toxic. Toxicity in the cells from all the crap in food holds the weight on even when exercising and dieting sometimes. We use a detox program in our clinic by Standard Process that will not only make you lose tons of weight but it will get your health back on track very rapidly. One of our patients dropped her blood pressure by 50 points in the first 10 days. Another lowered her units of insulin taken(she's insulin dependant diabetic) from 250units to 80 in two weeks.
I think the best thing about it is it actually retrains your body on what to crave. You start liking and craving healthy things that you never did before. Weight loss is easy after that because your diet is on track. It's a 21 day program. Check it out online. I think some of you guys would really benifit from it. Best of luck.

It's http://www.standardprocess.com/display/router.aspx. It truly is a life changing program. And I know that sounds hoaky and over the top but I have put literally 100s if not a 1000 people on this program and they all come back telling me this. We've seen tons of phenominal results. I just got done with one after Christmas to get myself back on track after the holidays.

If I can ever find my damn memory card for my camera, I'll take a pic! One thing that keeps me on the right side of the fence when I want to eat three Big Mac's or pop a buy a bottle of scotch is somethig my sister told me a year ago when talking about being overweight. She said " Well, do you want to look like Dad when you are 60"? God bless him, but he WAY overate and drank and had quite the middle section. Not for me!

There will be one member here that in a couple of months that everyone is going to tip their hats to...........Can't say who it is, but think of a Start Wars personality as a hint:D
