Barkaway’s YouTube video shows a 308-engine stand that I would like to fabricate something similar before I pluck out my engine - the engine may be out for months and wheeled around. In the deep pool of the forum, has someone measured the distances between the 4 motor mounts? Or is there a schematic side-view drawing of the engine that will give me the dimensions? Maybe Ian Barkaway will wander in here and throw some dims of his stand my way! His videos are great and I really look forward to them. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Unfortunately my car is nowhere close or I would measure it up for you. If nobody chimes in just slide under your car and measure the center to center of the 4 mounts. It should be fairly easy to do on the ground.
When I did my motor, I had 2 carts and an engine stand. The engine stand is specific for Alfa motors and spins on its motor mount locations. It also worked perfectly for the 308 installing the bottom end as it spins. Once the heads were in, I dropped it on the trans sitting on the higher cart. I had these different height cars, it just made it easier to work on. I then put it on the short cart and used that for the test stand to fire the motor before we dropped it in the car. The motor sat on its oil pans and wasn't even strapped down when started. Not difficult to make, I can take dimensions if you need and photos. Another option is to get a hydraulic lifting table: https://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-capacity-hydraulic-table-cart-60438.html
You are correct just get under the car....I need to make a homemade autobody tram gauge to pick the points!
