Looks like a "New" point premium system... Just caught this on the CTV 6:00 news -- looks like you get nailed with a $320 SURCHARGE for your first excessive speed ticket, starting Jan 1/08 -- on top of the cost of the ticket, and it goes up from there. Not sure, but isn't excessive speeding defined as more than 20km/h over the speed limit? http://www.icbc.com/licensing/lic_fines_drp.asp
..come to think of it...I think you're right. also, the 3rd "no front plate ticket" in as many years will net the driver a $350 SURCHARGE on top of the no front plate tickets... There aren't any Ferrari owners in BC that don't have front plates - but simply a public service announcement for people we might know that drive other cars that might not be aware of this new surcharge / law.
yeah - what he said are no-front-plate tickets a moving violation? I didn't think so. So maybe they don't apply?
I hope you are right! I don't think it makes any sense to give people surcharges for front plate convictions either, but I just took a closer look at the link, and it looks like they have cleverly covered all the bases by saying "Three or more convictions of any kind during the assessment period"...
wow that sucks. i wonder if you have a ticket from before jan 1, 08 but you dispute it and the court date happens in lets say April will you get nailed with the surcharge? I hope not
I think -- that it won't matter if you win (best case scenario) -- but i you don't the conviction date will be the date they use....and it stays on your driving record for 5 years following the conviction date (even though the date you actually got the ticket was long before the conviction date)...
That's the Ontario Government for you.........And thank you to everyone who voted liarberal at the last election, as you can see they are doing a bang up job
wow -- 1-2 a week? sounds expensive! unless they decide to exempt front plate violations -(not likely based on what they've written up) -- here's what the damage looks like after a few convictions over a 3 year period: 3 = $350 4 = $400 5 = $460 6 = $530 7 = $610 8 = $700 9 = $810 10 = $930 and they also tell us that "amounts will continue to increase after 10 convictions".
I think the rules from the Ontario government, and BC government are different. We can't compare rules and fines here. The Ontario government has enabled the 50km/h 'racing' fine, aka the "Crusher".
No they don't crush them, you lose your car and licence for a week and have to deal with the BS afterwards (court)
IIRC the ministry of transport said that if your car is found to contain illegal and dangerous modifications, and caught 'street racing', they will crush/confiscate your car. So if you are racing a lowered, nitrous breathing Ferrari down the highway and get caught, you might have it crushed!! (That would be the F-Chat thread-of-the-year if that happened!)
I could care less when I drive my Honda CRV, affectionately called the 'prosac mobile'. But I do care a lot when I drive my CS on open roads because it's almost impossible to enjoy spirited driving anymore because of all the radar and laser technology around. Yes, I'm talking about open roads, not congested, not dangerous, that are laced with speed traps that equate 20-30km over the speed limit as an affront to humanity and an opportunity to tax. It seems to me the motivation to install newer and better radar and laser jammers will become a reasonable, knee jerk reaction. From what I can tell, the Valentine 1 is the best radar detector and the Laser Interceptor is the best laser jammer. See the following http://www.radarbusters.com/lidarlaserjammingarticle.cfm Do they work. Oh yes. I have the SR3 and, while it isn't cutting edge anymore -- at least compared to Laser Interceptor -- it has made me invisible to the occasional, ridiculous, sneaky speed trap on wide open roads with no one else driving but me.
Well the bad news is that front plate tickets will count towards the new point premium system. I received a letter yesterday from ICBC warning me about this new point premium system because I've only had 5 front plate tickets in the last 3 years, no other tickets. Its total BS but I guess the law is the law.
And We thought we lived in a democratic soceity Icbc polices are run by commists who think we should pay taxes for them to sit in their offices and do nothing and suck back our tax money and dont pay claims. I think it is time for revoltion against these non elected tax wasting sobs.
we are victims of icbc and the liberal mismanagment.what about the mdcbc thats another joke on your pocketbook
Maybe a dumb question, but I am debating a move to Vancouver if I move back to Canada. Does ICBC have a reduced premium plan to cover vintage exotics (i.e. 25+ years old)? Anyone get that type of coverage? When I used to live in Ontario comprehensive classic car insurance was available at reasonable cost if you had a clean(ish) record and could prove that you had another daily driver.
