    Seriously, I find it funny that on one thread in Fchat there's a thermometer showing -56 F, and here the airwaves are full of winter warnings for this brief dusting.

    I guess we all only like ice when it's in Mojitos :D

    can you tell I'm a bit bored at work?

    5 of the people that work for me have asked if they can leave early. It's 11:30. I've NEVER understood if it's true panic about driving in it, or if it's trying to dodge work. I do know that it makes me angry.

    I do know that it's worth it just to leave early because everyone ELSE panics. I've had a few 3-4 hour commutes in Dallas under snow or ice conditions.

    I'm enjoying a nice 20 degree day here in Kansas. No snow yet.

    I'm at work right now and just came back from lunch. I think that being a Friday wit some snow and maybe ice on the ground combined with a lot of idio.. hu humm... people in a hurry; kinda makes the idea of leaving early and beating traffic that much more appealing.

    LOL... It sure feels like it!!! Wow I just realized what I wrote! That comes to show you that today was a good day to stay home. My "fried is brain" today... I'm not even being productive at all. OK I'll shut up now and go to the break room to take a nap!

    Remember that this is Texas. Most people drive like nuts and run into each other when it rains. When there is any ice or snow to be seen it's just mayhem, death and destruction.

    No crap….. I live in Oklahoma but have been spending a good deal of time in Dallas as the wife now works there and we are planning on moving there this summer. Anyway those Dallas people can’t drive at all in the rain, so I can’t presume how bad it is when there is some snow or sleet.

    I lived in NC for a while and I though they were bad in the rain or snow... Untill I got to DFW and now I fear for my life among the Texas size SUV's driven by a person whose driving IQ is not higher than their vehicle displacement in liters.

    Last night driving to dinner about 8:00, there was pretty much one car sideways or backwards per overpass and bridge. Go figure, most of them were SUVs.

    Coming to work this morning though was like being out on a Sunday morning before anyone is even up for church. I guess everyone else is staying home or has the day off :(

    My ABS saved my AS$ last night. An hour and 15 minutes into my standard 45 minute drive last night, I crossed a bridge on 190 going East. When my rear wheels hit the expansion joint getting on the bridge, it knocked my rear end loose, and of course it started sliding into the lane next to me. Initial reaction: countersteer and brakes. The brakes because the guy in front of me was also sliding. As soon as I hit the brakes my snow training kicked in- pump the brakes, pump the brakes. As I pushed the brake pedal I felt the ABS starting to work. Oh yeah, ABS. The car snapped back into line, and slowed rapidly. Hit nothing. Whew.

    Gotta love technology.

    I don't think the majority know how to drive in the rain or snow/ice because they haven't experienced it (from Texas, Mexico, or India). However, I do know for a fact that either what they use in the roads or the fact it doesn't rain much (dirtier) causes our roads to be extra slippery in the rain. I have many years experience in the rain and ice in Kansas and Massachusetts. I would say Texas roads have less than half the traction in the rain.

    Also, you would think SUV's and trucks would be better on the ice, but actually the big heavy cars just give more weight to break loose. what you need is a little Subaru AWD in these conditions! Rally driving crossed up drifting down 114! :D

    Just stopping through Southlake form Kansas on my way South. Colder up North, but the roads were clear until about OKC. The roads weren't bad by 1pm, but all the shoulders are still iced over.

    Pickups are dangerous if you're not paying attention to how slippery it is out there, with RWD, lots of torqe, and a 70-30 front-to-back weight distro. A month or two after I bought my truck, I swapped ends going around a clover leaf, at a reasonable speed, a few minutes into a light drizzle.

    Now that I know what I'm doing, I love to hang the ass end out going around corners, especially in the rain. But never on public roads, of course. :)

    Wonder how long it will take me to drive 2 miles. From last big worktime ice storm it took me 4 hours to drive 20 miles, so the answer is 24 minutes. :)
