Dear George, Followed this thread with pleasure! As I just bought a 212 (export) VIN 0128E .........) I am very interetsed in the owners manual (212 inter), a photo copy or any other info is also very welcome. Thank you in advance, Oscar The netherlands
George, great job on the research on this car.I will try to get in touch with the owner of 0084 and see if he knows anything about the same type lights referred to in the Barchetta description of 0084.If you are interested in selling the 1953 Year Book or any of the other doccuments you have, please let me know at [email protected]. Bet you wish you still owned the car. tongascrew George[my name also]
Those period documents are very valuable...the yearbook should be easy to 'price check'........as to the vehicle specific info you'll find most of the Owners of those cars here in this Section of the 'chat'.... We are very glad to meet you.....thanks for posting your info!!!! As you see most websites proclaiming to know the 'history' of the early cars usually contain some errors in the information, and should never be considered 'gospel'...IMO.
Stu (and others): Michele Vernola was indeed a sometime correspondent for R&T, as well as a few others, and did a little car-hunting for several people. He was one of those guys who were around the fringes of the car builders in Italy in the early days, sorta like Pete Coltrin. Had a good rep, as far as I know.
I really don't have a clue as to what a fair price would be for these items.?? Any help??? Thanks George Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hallo George, thanks for reffering to my website concerning the 340 America... It is not finished yet, it will never because there are so many holes in history. But threads like these are so plesant, just a little more info about the old days.... If you want to contact the current owner, please send me an email private. Bert de Boer
Hallo Oscar, Nice to hear that you bought 0128E.... Is she coming to Holland? Would love to have a change to take some pics of the car... Bert de Boer www.ferrari340america.nl
Check the Internet but I am sure the Yearbook is several thousand $$$, and we are at the point now where my 1977 Owners Books and associated leather pouch is worth $5K! Can someone do a link to one of the Ferrari Literature specialists? Or else one of you Vintage Car owners that needs these shoot him a Private Message!
I don't recommend doing business with this vendor, he has disappeared, but a website (former sponser here) ************.com will give you a reference framework for your period pieces........ Do they bear any specific VIN number references? Not sure that they would.....you need to link up with Tom Shaugnessy, he'll now to the penny what you should get! Has anyone seen Tom S. post over the Holidays?????
If interested in selling the manuals with the car, I would try and contact the current owner of the car and give them first whack at it. As for value, I would say no less than $10k.
I just checked and Tom S. posted on 12/19/2007 in the 206/246 section about a 246 steering wheel, and from what I could tell at about 5:19PM today he had just viewed a posting in the SoCal section about someone whose license plate surround had been stolen. I was a little surprised by what you can find by clicking on someone's FCHAT icon . . . (other than the simple "about me" info). Mark
I received a timely PM from bertdeboer340 as to the history of the Ferrari in question. It seems 0124A is not the SN we are looking for. The brake lights, XK120 windshield etc. according to a former owner were not 0124A. The emblems on the rear deck do not show on 0124A as they are on my old car. I am at a loss at this point to try to identify this old Ferrari???? I came across another old B&W photo showing a portion of the engine. I did a scan and will post. As people come home from the holiday I'm sure some additional activity will give us more input. Thank all of you who have helped so far...........George Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can't help you with an ID for your car, however, in the latest b&w photo posted there appears to ba a badge just under the body line that looks like Ferrari in script. I've never seen a car with "Ferrari" in this particular location before. Was this a common placement or is it a one off?
Thank you for pointing this out. Frankly I had forgotten about the side badges. I'm not sure if these were standard on all Tourings. Thanks again.....
George and all fchateristi, Just a comment from the cheap seats (ME). What an enjoyable and enlightening thread this has become, in such a short time. Not all have answered that have knowledge of this car, and knew the owner(s), of this Ferrari. The prices mentioned of some of the owners manuals and other books and literature, is absolutely astounding! I feel like a pea-shooter at an artillery exhibition. We haven't heard from Marcel Massini yet, amongt others. I am interested in what he has to tell us, or George, as it was his car, once upon a time. Happy New Year, Ciao...Paolo
I'm still not clear why 032MT has been eliminated. Can someone post pictures of 032MT (both old and as recent as possible). Regards, Art S.
032 was different is too many respects but 0118, as suggested by Christian.Fr (#10) is quite possible.
0032MT had a very different Touring body. Did we try 0114A before he went to Bardinon ?? BTW, today, the body of 0114A is completely wrong.
i check in my side, i ve got pic of 0032MT need more pics of 0118 for good estimation. Jack McAfee with 275S America Barchetta Touring, converted to 340 America nº78 same engine... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
You must mean 0116A. Possible only if the whole dashboard was refabricated (different shape, different set of gauges in different position). 0118A also has completely different dashboard. The only alternative I just came to think of is 0144A. Very little is known of this car's early life, but it was sold new in Italy and AFAIK surfaced in Philippines in 1970. Some sources claim this car started life as a Coupe and was rebodied later on. I think this is based on confusion with Johnny Ysmael's 0132A and its Philippinean connection. 0144A does look like a genuine Touring spider and if that body is a fake, its the best replica body ever built! The only thing that still keeps me hesitant is that 0144A appears to have much milder curved rear wheel arch and there also seems to be a cooling duct of some sort incorporated into the body. The dash with instruments is exactly the same (even if it has been leather covered). I can't think of any other cars that would be possible. Best wishes, Kare
This picture should be just good enough to see that the gauges are in different position: very close to each other. http://home.planet.nl/~fer340am/0118-aa.jpg George's America had the dash I've only seen on 0114A, 0124A and 0144A. http://www.finecars.cc/uploads/pics/Ferrari_340_America_s_n_0114A.jpg 0030MT and 0116A had three gauges. I don't have dash board photos of 0032MT and 0120A, but in this discussion that is irrelevant.
