Can anyone ID this Ace Bristol. I shot it recently and am trying to get a fix on the model and year of the car. It was quite a beauty. The leather had long ago cracked and was removed from the dash. The motor was quite beautiful and you can see the Cobra in the front end lines.

    cheers and thanks

Just for the record I don't think the dashes were leather covered.

Thanks for the reply. I found this on the Motorbase.com website: In 1956 the AC Aceca became available with the 2 litre Bristol engine also used in the open AC Ace model. The Aceca made good use of the extra power afforded by the 1971cc Bristol six cylinder.

From 1957 front disc brakes became standard equipment (again, these were available on the open Ace), an overdrive gearbox could also be fitted and became a popular option. The Aceca-Bristol remained in production until 1963, by which time 169 cars had been built.

I found this interior shot from the motorbase.com website as well. It seems to indicate that there was some kind of covering on the dash. And the current owner of the car I photographed mentioned that the leather covering had deteriorated sufficiently that he simply removed it and cleaned up the underlying wood.

    cheers

I have a copy of the book Original AC Ace and Cobra by Rinsey Mills (I think he owned a Aceca) anyways, both the Aceca and the Ace have a leather covered dash. If you want to check the originality of a car, this is a great book. It also makes it incredibly easy to spot faults on replicas.

The interior photo from the other car looks very correct from the photos in the book.
