Always the bargain hunter, a co-worker alerted me to the nautical equivalent of the proverbial Ferrari in the barn. But I need help identifying this yacht. The owner has left this yacht in a decaying marina for many years and the marina owners want it moved. The owner hasn't paid any slip rent for a LONG time. Sadly, some high winds and water rammed the bow into the dock, ripping away some of the bow wood. I don't know if this caused the boat to sink in the 4 feet of water, or if other hidden damage was done, or if the propeller shaft seals just leaked the hull full of water over the years. Overall, a sad situation for such a nice boat. Now here's the puzzling bit of info: Supposedly, it is a Chris Craft. After researching across the net, it looks to be a Chris Craft Roamer, flush deck model. But the bow of THIS boat looks to be made of wood (mahogony) and I ASSUMED that the rest of the hull was also wood. Kind of hard to tell with most of it submerged. But all the info on Chris Craft Roamers tells me that they were metal hulls. So I am confused. Are any of you F-chat brothers well versed in nautical craft? I hate to see this once noble vessel rot away if it could be saved. Just researching the possibilities.

You are right! This is such a shame. The owners should have looked after it better. Best of luck on getting her back in sailing shape.

my humble advice: DO NOT touch this thing.
I have seen boats in floating condition and better shape
go for a couple hundred dollars. You will lose money with this thing.

I would find a boat guy local and see what it will cost you to pull it up just to look at the damage.

Darth, How did you find the name of the thing???

That's a mid sixties Connie (wooden hull)
You are correct there were no "wooden" Roamers.
Chris Craft's Roamer Division used aluminum or steel
Take it from this large wood boat owner... Don't Even Think About It!

If you were able to salvage, oh say, a little of the frame, and rebuild the whole boat around the documented piece of frame, would you have....oh, never mind...

take it from someone who grew up restoring wooden sail boats

take a metal bucket and go down to the shore line so you can get the right ambiance then place all your money in the bucket follow with the contents of your wallet, credit cards and anything else of value, pour in a liberal amount of kerosene and then take an expensive lighter like a brass or gold cartier or something like that and toss it in lit. Will get it over with faster.

If this wreck has been down in the water for more than a couple of days it is gone,
It is like this if you found a Testarossa that had been burned, interior gone and engine mashed someone who has access to a salvage yard could bring that back from the dead, if you don't own the salvage yard you are just parsing in the wind....

Funny...my Father in Law had a similar craft in a slip when he purchased some property...he had to float it out of there........

Start saving for a new one instead.

There's a reason it's sitting on the bottom.......

I do like that table though Clifford........that rocks!

    ROTFLMAO!

I always snag a copy of "SUPERBIG BOATS" or whatever it is from the FoH showroom when I'm in there, and dream...

Last issue had an article about the Italian restoration of a turn of the century racing sloop. Oh My Gawd it was beautiful!

The boom alone weighed 4 tons... now having been hit in the head with a Sunfish boom, that specification alone was food for thought.

It had been built originally by coal mining magnates, when they opened the keel they found coal had been installed with/as the ballast, as a reminder of the family's origin .... "new" rich as opposed to "old".....

    Holy smoke!

Did anyone die in that Fountain, Murph? I note the "police line" tape...

The industry is trying to self regulate these guys, before the insurance industry does! Some kind of high performance boat license...

Anderson resident John Montgomery had his new boat on Hartwell
Lake Thursday afternoon when things took an unexpected turn.
The 42-foot speedboat ended its journey in a grove of trees
with its stern on the ground and its keel split down the
middle by a tree that cut through the bottom of the boat.
Mr. Montgomery made a turn in the boat that caught him and his
passenger off guard as they traveled near the Asbury Park boat
ramp off Centerville Road. The sudden turn threw Mr.
Montgomery and his passenger into the lake.
But the boat kept going, state Department of Natural Resources
    spokesman Lt. Robert McCullough said.
"The boat just shot up on the bank," he said. "The tree cut it
down to the windshield. It almost cut the boat in half."
No one was seriously injured, the wildlife officer said. He
said Mr. Montgomery was issued a ticket for negligent
    operations.
Lt. McCullough said Mr. Montgomery had the boat about five
days and still was trying to learn how to use it. The boat’s
kill switch, which should be hooked up upon launch, was not
turned on that afternoon. If on, the switch would have cut off
the boat’s motor when its passengers were thrown out.
