Gents, I have seen some pretty solid info on this forum lately. So here goes: I have two 355 car covers. One has a label that says Cover Car By Andrea. The other cover has no label. Questions: 1) How do you identify if the one without a label is OEM ? 2) Ideas on value ? Both are in excellent condition with no rips or stains. Thanks !
The originals OEM covers were made by Andrea, via Cover Car. They had a large Cavallino on the front with the word "Ferrari" and a small Cavallino on the rear. The later covers are a different manufacture (name escapes me right now) and have only the large Cavallino on the front. Originals in excellent condition with the carry bag fetch around $500-600.
That original Challenge cover came with my car, Yassa. It was made in the early 1990s by Confezioni Andrea for the 348 and F355 Challenge cars before the wing was developed. It works with the wing but the hem rides high in the rear. A generic cotton cover also came with my car which accommodates the wing. Confezioni Andrea still offers the Challenge cover for 348s and F355s with an option for the wing. See the information I posted in this thread: VIN 101623 CARETAKER
Best Ferrari 355 cover I saw was the one some guy posted here awhile back. He was at a hotel and tossed the cover on his car. It said "Pontiac Fiero" all over it. Brilliant.
Dave, there's now an option to add a custom personalized logo. As I mentioned in the other thread, it's worth an email inquiry to see if they'll add the Challenge logo.
I’d love to have one of those, I missed out on one a couple years back by a few minutes in the classifieds here. If anyone has one for sale let me know.
Barry - perhaps something changed since this thread: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/355-car-cover-oem-fyi.430908/ What I ordered from Algar turned out to not be the original cover but the one with only the single Cavallino on the front (different mfg) so I returned it.
Dave, from what I see, a lot of paraphernalia was produced for the Challenge Series including helmets, driver's suits, gear and helmet bags in addition to the car covers. Maybe Andrea will put the Ferrari Challenge logo on their car cover as a custom logo. But if not, one can order the plain cover in yellow along with its carrying bag and have Ferrari challenge silkscreened on them as was done originally. Both the Ferrari and challenge scripts are available as vector art.
Barry, I know zero about Challenge cars aside what I've learned from you. My comments are about commercially available products. Sure, one could buy a plain cover and ask a vendor to violate trademarks but it won't be me Honestly, while I know it's small potatoes, Ferrari is leaving a lot of dough on the table not offering some items that us fans would pay a premium for
I see, Dave. Ferrari changed manufacturers for their car covers. Andrea no longer has the concession as they had when your car was produced and new covers offered by dealerships differ as you've described. It would be easy for Ferrari to have their current manufacturer replicate the original Andrea covers. I guess Ferrari views the covers as they do other parts which can be updated with design changes ("Old Solution" "New Solution") and is not thinking of the many purist owners out there. Ferrari has a way of making a lot of money off, not only owners, but dealerships too. Thank heaven for FerrariChat Classifieds and eBay!
Dave, I believe the other official car cover manufacturer for Ferrari was the Italian company Brandart.it. My car came with the ubiquitous red Cover Car By Andrea cover with bag but I couldn’t resist purchasing this VERY rare yellow item. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mine is Brandart and it has a large hood Cavalino and a small Cavalino in the middle of the rear grill.
Interesting. I had bought one from Algar and it did not have the rear Cavallino. Kevin - does your have the "Ferrari" script on the front?
