OK everyone knows it. Ide's a hazard. An embarrasment to both Honda and F1. How long until he loses his ride? I'd personally be surprised if we see him in germany in 2 weeks.... Opinions...
I only pray he doesn't kill somebody before they haul his bony ass out of the car. Literally, I think I could drive a better F1 race than him.
Well lets see. I would certainly qualify last... But I would likely complete a lap without wrecking someone else. Yup, I'm better than him too...
I agree, I wouldn't be fast at all in comparison, but i'm sure i could manage one lap around the track without hitting anyone. Personally I hope they take him out of the car before Germany for the sake of the rest of the drivers.
There are several that could take his place: Nico's dad, or Derek Daly, or Martin Brundle, Damon Hill, Eddie Irvine, the list could get rather long... My question is, I wonder what (his) crew thinks when he's out on the track ?
To an extent, Honda is having the same problem with getting japanese drivers in F1 as FIA has with getting american drivers in F1. Japan has tons of racing venues at home, as the US does. Why would the best racers want to go "on the road" when they can race at home? For europeans, F1 is the show. To american and japanese drivers, it's just a travelling show that comes by once a year. Speed is an "american" driver who prefers racing in europe. Cheever had a US passport, but was raised in europe. The americans who were convinced to go race in F1 have done poorly -- but why did they leave american racing in the first place? Despite lots of talk about Gordon going to F1, he's happy driving where he gets to go home to the family. Why would a top notch japanese driver take on odd food, odder languages (from his perspective), and living on the road, just to race in an old Arrows? If they dumped Ide, who else would want the seat? You run an F1 team for advertising. I imagine that Honda is having the same problem Speed channel and CBS sponsors have: viewing audience competition from domestic racing. Heck, I almost tuned to Speed channel for the Rolex series from VA instead of CBS's poor coverage of Imola. With Ide, Honda might at least get the audience to tune in for a laugh.
Surely there must be a better driver in Japan, I think one of thoes drifiting guys could do better. Ide makes Sato look like a World Champion.
Franck Montagny is heard to be ready to jump in once Ide gets the boot. And I´ve always believed Sato is underrated, but hey...
Pretty speculative, but according to this Ide may be done... http://www.planet-f1.com/News/Story_Page/0,15909,3210_3213_1178557,00.html
Wow, do you think Davidson would really want to take that seat??? I wouldn't want to be driving in one of their cars til Super Aguri makes their new chassis. Honda really wants that team (and Sato) to do well to let them use their test driver! I wouldn't be surprised, though, if Davidson always did better than Sato. If that happens, they'll take Davidson out
Of course there are. But are there any other Japanese drivers who would want to live on the road and put up with all the F1 hype, just to drive an obsolete Arrows? The good drivers can race at home. And the young drivers would serve their careers better by getting a good GP2 ride than herding that lead sled around the back of the pack.
That was the worst passing attempt I have ever seen ... he should be removed or atleast made to sit out a few races. Pete
Are you sure? There local racing scene is dominated by other nationalities (I believe). Heck even completely useless Wayne Gardner dominated a series over there for many years, and he is no car driver!@! Agree. Unfortunately Japan is not the breeding ground (yet) for race drivers. Pete
Well, there are quite a number of nationalities in US racing too. The point is that ambitious US drivers can compete at home without having to learn to speak French, to eat tiny european meals, or spend weeks away from home. The same could be said for Japanese drivers. That's not a comparison of the quality of drivers in different nations. It's just that the nations with active domestic racing have competition for drivers. What goes to F1 from those countries may not be the best they have. Honestly, is Webber the best driver Australia has to offer? Aren't there better drivers in domestic racing who don't want to take it "on the road"?
So true ... unfortunately it's the driver who can gather the required $'s. Webber could quite possibly be the best driver Australia has to offer, but I don't know. I never saw him come up the ranks in local stuff. We have had many other drivers go to Europe and England and have a go and failed ... he made it! As I said, unfortunately it is not just driving ability anymore. Interestingly Courtney (the ex-Toyota F1 test driver) is getting his @rse whipped in V8 Supercars ... after all the pre-season hype we all expected him to lap the entire field in 3 laps, instead he has looked out of depth. But I bet if we stuck him in a single seater tables might be turned ... there is a huge difference in driving sharp single seaters and heavy rollie-pollie saloon cars with too much hp. Pete
per planet f1 yesterday... http://www.planet-f1.com/News/Story_Page/0,15909,3210_3213_1182044,00.html WTF??? Is Ide the team owners (Aguri Suzuki's) illegitimate child or his gay lover or something??? He seems to be the only one supporting him. Maybe he's doing Ide's mom....
(Suzuki) "... he doesn't understand how to use the car, or tyres, or things like that." Yes, we've already noticed that Ide doesn't know how to drive.
