I know this is a dumb question from reading prior posts, but I just want to be sure I got this right. If I understand correctly, on an '81 GTSi with digiplexs, there is nothing I have to do regarding setting the ignition timing. They are either working or not, but the timing and advance are controlled by the fixed sensors and ignition modules which are not adjustable. The only timing issue I should need to worry about are the cams. Please let me know if I have this wrong is some way. Thanks for your patients.
you are right...digiplexes can not be adjusted - as for cam timing, when engine is at TDC on cylinder 1, all 4 cams have to align with their corresponding marks (to time them perfectly right, people will recommend to dial them in, though...the debate is on best regards from Germany Michael
Total advance with that box is right around 36.5 degrees if I remember right. This further gimps performance on those babies as they can take a little more than that unless compression is higher of course.
Just remember the vacuum lines. Make sure that you have no leaks or you be off timing all the time and could take out a valve or worse. Check in the body panel all the way to the digiplex's or at least do a vacuum test with a hand pump. Been there!
