I downloaded the new Internet Explorer 8 (windows xp) last night and everything is fine except for this forum. I log on but can't see any pictures in the posts. Just a red "x" shows up. The avitars show up and the photos in the classified section show up. Every other website is fine.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Our corporate IT guys warned us all NOT to download IE 8 as there were many issues with web sites not load / displaying properly. Here is their warning if it helps:

Today, Microsoft released Internet Explorer version 8. The prior IE 7 upgrade caused many problems with applications and WEB sites which were unable to operate in the new browser. For this reason, IT Acceleration recommends that you apply the IE 8 blocker to all of your PCs until you have tested your applications and are sure there are no compatibility issues.

The attached document details how to install the IE 8 blocker. If you do not install the blocker, IE 8 will be downloaded with the other automatic updates from Microsoft. The IE 8 blocker can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=21687628-5806-4ba6-9e4e-8e224ec6dd8c&displaylang=en

Note: ITA has tested the IE 8 blocker installation but we cannot verify that it actually blocks IE 8 as MS has not yet added IE 8 to the auto updates. We highly recommend that you install the blocker before they do!

BTW, this is why i have switched completely to MAC's.

I installed IE 8.0 and can no longer see pics from this site. I have not had any issues with other(few) sites that I tried. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

After you pointed me over there, I found a thread on the subject.

Thanks for the help. Now the other thread just needs a solution.

I found a few other messages with other people having the same problem... no more pictures in posts with IE 8. I cleared all cookies and my settings carried over from IE 7. There is a compatibility setting under tools which I also tried but it makes no difference.

It's very strange that this forum is the only website that does not display properly for me.

p.s. just sent a note to Rob about the issue also.

I had the same issue as well, along with other issues with IE 8. I eventually loaded the Safari program (I think it's associated with itunes?) and I don't have anymore problems. Also seems Safari runs a little quicker than IE 7. Makes me think about getting a Mac next time...

This has been a known problem between IE 8 and our software since users started going on IE 8. It doesn't impact all IE 8 users and some sites still work fine with IE 8. FerrariChat.com doesn't. The software developers are working on it, but no solutions yet.

I would recommend FireFox in the meantime.

I have the same issue with mine too. Images don't show up in IE 8 but they work fine in Firefox or Google Chrome. Hopefully Ferrarichat.com will be able to fix things on their end or Microsoft fixes IE 8. Whichever comes first.

I'm going to spend a little now working on it, but don't think that will help. The word from vB is IE 8 will realize all these sites are having problems, but with no other browsers, so they will sneak a fix into a "security" release.

I removed any add-ons we weren't using anymore, I downloaded the most recent version of the software, and I created a version of FerrariChat.com without any of my code customizations. Still no images show up in IE 8. I will think some more on it and monitor any fixes found, but it will be Firefox for now.

I uninstalled IE 8 and now the images show up in IE 7. There were also issues with the save files going all over the place in IE 8 too. Looks like it's not quite ready for prime time yet. It's back to IE 7 for me.

GIF images appear to work. Well, I didn't dig very far to see other image file formats that might work (like PNG)
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=233015

There's one on Page 1 posted by snj1 and a few on page 2 posted by Rob Lay. I have absolutely no experience with PHP, so please forgive me, could it be a wrong MIME-type/Content declaration in the attachment.php script for the different image formats(if that's even something that would be necessary)?

the base software and some add-ons will not cause the problem, just certain add-ons and customizations that we have. many sites are impacted, not just forums.

how hard is it really to download Firefox too? The browser is much better than IE for security anyway, not even counting the bug.

Add me to the list of users that see only the red X instead of pictures. Yes, I went to IE8. It's strange as other sites with identical looking forum software show their pictures just fine. Guess I'll give the fixers some more time and hope for a solution.

I believe it is fixed now. Software company didn't try to fix, IE 8 didn't try to fix, but a user of another forum with the problem helped the admin find the root cause. Let me know if you still see problems viewing FerrariChat from IE 8. Thanks.
