Assuming he had the faculties to run the entire company, how do you see Ferrari, in general, funtioning? Would roadcars be much different? Would Ferrari have dominated F1 as they have the past few years? Would Ferrari branch out of F1 into other types of racing? Would the F50 have had a better power to weight ratio than the F40 ;). You name it!

    Let the speculation begin!!!

I think there would have been less entry level road cars with a higher price tag. The f50 may have not existed or the Enzo(f60).If they would have exsisted (f50, and f60), they would have been much more money and would have had more of them to compensate for the lesser cars (like the 355/360/430). In f1 I think the outcome would have been similar with championships, maybe not the way it worked out but similar. I dont think Enzo being around would have been better or worse, just different.

If Enzo were alive today ? President Luca Di Montezemolo, would have much less power. Enzo Ferari was born in Italy Modena.. (1889-1988) Mr. Enzo was a very complicated person. Mr. Enzo only wanted perfection, from road cars and Race cars. His Strength came from his Passion to win. His dreams came from his heart and soul thru his cars. This chemistry drove Enzo to achieve world recognition. If Enzo was alive today, sure road cars would be different, perhaps less technical user controls, (NO LAUNCH CONTROL STABILITY CONTROL NO ABS ) ETC. ENZO was a true driver he would not give a damn about techincal advances..KEEP EVERY THING FIRM AND TOUGH ITS A FERRARI NOT AN MERCEDES BENZ OR ASTIN MARTIN... IT DEMANDS A FERRARI DRIVER WITH GUTS..

Only because Enzo would personally still be around (no greater power than the Drake himself!).

It was Enzo himself who brought de Montezemolo into the Ferrari team and it was de M. who lead Niki Lauda and Ferrari to the world titles in 1975... He had Enzo's complete confidence which is why he ended up within Ferrari where he eventually did.

I should ask the question if Max Mosley leaves FIA how much better would F1 be :p

It took a while, but Luca's fingerprint on the road cars can be seen in the 550 and (especially) the 360-430. Enzo was not very concerned with road cars. He did what he needed to to make them profitable, but design and especially technology were not overriding concerns. Clearly with the mid engine line, Luca made them the technological, exotic showcase and made them more user friendly in the process. Prior to Luca taking over, Ferraris were generally behind everyone adopting new technology or transfering F1 technology. The 355 was the beginning. Basically he took the 348 platform, added a lot of tech, and made it more user friendly. The result was a hit. With the 360, it was ground up groundbreaking and the result was a home run from a biz point of view. With the 12's he decided "back to the future" with the 550 which is a modernized version of the great 12 cyl. GT's of the 60's. From a biz standpoint, the results are mixed, but I like the concept myself. As far as racing, he has pretty much followed what Enzo was doing but youth, enthusiasm and just plain management skill transformed Ferrari's F1 efforts to dominance until this year. Frankly, as a businessman myself I admire what Luca has done. He took a small company on the ropes with aging, arguably pretty crappy products and turned into one of the world's most recognizable and valuable brands today. I think Enzo would be pleased!

Because I don't think there's a way to say this without offending at least *someone*, I'll just put it out there as it popped into my head:

If Enzo were still around today, the cars would be less reliable but much more beautiful...

    (flamesuit on)

Note - I'm not suggesting that older Ferraris are pieces of junk, nor am I suggesting that newer Fcars are not beautiful. Just that the older cars are far more beautiful to me than the newer ones, but aren't as reliable as the new ones (to an extent).

My guess is that the range of road cars would have developed pretty much as it has. Ferrari liked his cars to be sexy, contemporary, and competitive, and continuing to produce TRs, Mondials, and 328s (as fond as many of us are of them) or their close-clones simply wouldn't cut it.

My caveats: I suspect he would not have been happy with the lines of the 348/355 as successor to the very swoopy 328, and that he would have wanted a successor with lines more like the 360. I also think that the F50 isn't as dashing a successor to the F40 (which Enzo thought was gorgeous, me too!), and that the next "super-Ferrari" would have looked more like the Enzo.

I guess that means that I think it took the company awhile to find its design legs after Enzo, but that it eventually did ... or sort of did, because I'm not particularly thrilled with the "boat" aspect of the new Superamerica or the new big coupé.

I think Enzo saw Ferraris, including the road cars, as "small, sexy, mean, red, and nasty". :)

I agree with Wax, and he'd be in jail for killing Bernie, likely.
Now if you as WHO he'd be doing, I'd vote for the below.
Enzo would make Flabbio Briatore look like CD Allen.
Prolly would be doing Heidi, Adrianna, and Alessia at once.

    Talking about thongs...

Valentino Rossi laughed his pants oof when we presented this new merchandise item to honour his 6th title at the end of the 2004 season which he himself celebrated under the title "Che Spettacolo!".

Enzo probably would not have had a problem with the standard swag (t-shirts, polos, caps, jackets, posters, key-chains, 1/18 models...). Heck, money is money!! But crap like the 80$ teddy bears, underwear, beach towels...maybe he would have had some reservations about putting his name on stuff like that.

Reminds me of that line in Scarface: "I was jus thinkin' de udder day...a line a blue jeans, wit ma name written on duh back a chick's asses".

Well given the fact that Enzo did ALMOST anything to keep his cars racing (even going as far as negotiating with Ford and eventually selling out to Fiat and EVEN allowing Fiat to use his name & photo to advertise the rather crappy Fiat 128!) I doubt if he would have hesitated to put the name on beach towels.

I don't think that there's a significant difference between putting your name & logo on a t-shirt or putting it on a beach towel.

After all, there is market for it since people demand this items so calling a t-shirt "ok" but a beach towel "crap" is something that I fail to understand.

Also, Ferrari is making VERY good money on it (the Fila deal was worth 80,000,000 US$ for a 3 year period!). Try to say NO! to that if you desperately need that money. I think the old Drake would have said "where do I sign?".

I also think things changed significantly once Ferrari started to produce road cars in order to fund the racing activities.

A quick and dirty "artist's impression" of what Tazio would say to Enzo can be found below (with my apologies for ripping the base image from the internet. it came from barchetta.cc).
