How would you feel?

  1. I would be sad/disappointed

  2. I would be happy to see MS back in F1 regardless of the team

  3. I wouldn't care

I'm not so sure that would be the case.

I'd like to see him return (to any team, though would prefer Ferrari), but I'm doubtful it would happen.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I don't think anyone here thinks that MS is bigger than Ferrari or F1, at least I don't. Identifying a prolific and iconic athelet with his long-time team is not an unusal behavior, and it has nothing to do with understanding that employee movement is just part of the sport. It is just like seeing Bret Farv playing as a Jet/Viking or Jordan playing as a Wizards, unless you are a Viking fan or a Wizards fan, there is just something empty about watching them play.

Should he does decide to return, you can bet that I will be rooting for Alonso and Massa to beat him as I will forever be a Ferrari fan, but again, it does not mean that I will not be sad about seeing him leave the Ferrari family.

Incidentally, has there ever been another driver that has been associate with one specific team for as long as Schumacher has with Ferrari (1996-2006 as a driver and 2006-2009 as an advisor ) without ever leaving the team ?

Some people on here have. If you want to find them, just lay a bait thread like "Did Schumacher park his car on purpose in Rascasse and was his punishment justified?". ;)

Not to my knowledge, but e.g. Lauda's time with the Scuderia lasted quite a bit, earned them a couple of WDCs (almost 3) and he stayed on for a while as a consultant.

Yet if he dares speaking out in public against Ferrari or Schumacher, the holy dignitaries of FChat bring out their pitch forks.

I think MS will do just fine if he returns to F1. Also, how awsome is to see german driver driving german car. Go MS!!!

I don't think Shumi would be foolish enough to tarnish his legend unless he knew for a fact he could compete, and Brawn is the defending champion constructor not a mid to low level team like the wizards(at that time, and now again). He's too smart to make a decision with his heart over his brain. If he came back i'd assume it's only because he knew he could compete, if not he would've taken Massa's seat just for the sake of being back in the drivers seat even though he knew he wasn't up to pace because of his neck.

You can already see that with Rosberg.

And of course Ralf in the BMW was superb to watch too...

Why don't you like him? Did he do something to you personally?

I'd rather see him fail with them than with Ferrari..
I like Schumi but I don't think he is the driver he once was.
If he went to Ferrari again I would not be all that happy either unless he pulled in a lot of wins. There is to much new talent that I'd rather see get some wins, and not only that I like Alonso with Ferrari and I'd kill to see him and SV as a team at some point. Massa bugs the **** out of me now..

True, we definetly have as many Schumacher fanatics here just as we do with there are Senna fanatics. :)

I thought about Lauda too, but I think his Ferrari link parellels more with Berger-Ferrari association than Gilles or Schumacher's association with Ferrari. For Schumacher, I think it is important to look at the duration, achievement and retiring as a Ferrari driver. I also thought of Mika Hakkinen, he was with McLaren for 8 years and is only losely link to McLaren post-retirement.

Just wondering, why do you think it is awesome to have German driving a German car ? Do you think nationalism is important in the world of F1 racing ? I ask because I recall this point being specified at least a few times before.

Schuey going to Mercedes GP is nothing buy hype. Schuey is under contract with Ferrari for 3 more years and Luca M is not going to let him go considering the work that he has done for the production car division and GeS.

It's crazy to assume that Schumi is the driver he once was. That was 3 years ago. On paper, he could beat anyone out there. But that's just on paper. We have young guns like Fred, Massa, Hamilton, Button, Nico, Vettel all battling it out.

How will Schumi fare against them? I would definitely like to know, but i don't think it's worth it. If he fails, he will always be remembered as a failure to re-launch his career. Why risk everything? Like i said, i'd like to see him again, in action. But i seriously doubt it's gonna happen. Just publicity Merc GP is taking advantage of.

Another point is that the week in, week out travelling will eventually make Schuey start realise why he wanted to give up F1 previously. All the stress, the strain, missing the children growing up, being away from home all the time. It's one thing going to the occasional race, but week in, week out is completely different.

Still, if he does come back it should make for an interesting film in the future (for motor racing fans at least). A kind of motor racing "Rocky" (Cue the fanfare...... and the voice of Mickey "He's a racing machine!" :) )

He is a grown man and can do what he wants. I have always liked him but will cheer for Ferrari. I would prefer if he returns it is with someone else so Ferrari does not have to go through the chaos of why the car is no good because Michael looks slow. Did he really want to retire? He is old for an F1 driver but young to be a retiree. The classic athlete dilemma. They don't want to do anything else. I "heard" (could all be untrue), that his family pressured him somewhat to retire and was adamant against a return. Would be sad if he lapped in the middle of the pack and wrecked his marriage at the same time. But I am all for having the big guns in the cars racing, whoever they race for.
