A dirt track car has almost twice as much horsepower and would totally rape a lambo around the track.

That was part of one of the "cannonball" races I believe. It was part of a timed stage the drivers can compete in for points. I seen it in car and driver, vetts, vipers and all sorts of other exotics did it also. They mentioned the Diablo did have one of the best times. Actually does look fun.

The owner and driver of that car is a member of these forums ;) He is quite handy with Diablos behind the wheel, I have no doubts that his time was one of the fastest!

Until we know the true location of this event I am claiming it for Alabama. So until proven otherwise this is a Alabama redneck. The south will rise again!

I meant the red-neck thing as a joke since it was in the Video. Anyone who has the balls to take out a diablo on a dirt track and have some fun has my respect, as long as he's not destroying the car intentionally.
The driver seems to be doing a hell of a job, the car doesnt get out of control much, which is more than can be said about this viper:

Mind you, the viper is modded to 700HP.

That vid has been around for quite a while, but I still get a big kick out of it every time I see it. :) My best friend races Late Models (more or less a NASCAR car but on dirt) at local dirt tracks & they're something else. 800'ish hp in nothing more than a tube frame & sheet metal bodywork banging against other similar cars going sideways around the track. Pretty hairy stuff. I can't imagine what it's like for the sprint car guys...similar hp, but direct drive (no transmission...just engine-rear end) and 1/2 the weight of the late model cars. Fun stuff even if it is only in a circle. :)

They're called lottery winners... and they don't usually stay rich for long ;)

You can take the hillbilly out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the hillbilly.

From the looks of the car, it was Karl from European Road and Racing in S.C. - the yellow VT was (iirc) his car for One Lap before the Diablo GTR that I think Roy just bought. Fuzzy memory, someone step in if I've misremembered part of that.

Jason - You're right. That is Karl and it was part of Car & Driver's One Lap of America competition. I give Karl kudos for not bailing on the dirt track event, and apparently a lot of the other participants did too. He certainly dispelled the snooty Lambo image that day.

Karl's has sold that car, and as you mentioned Roy bought his race version (but it was an SVR, not a GTR). Karl is spooling up to build a new service facility here in Charleston, so I'm looking forward to that opening.

That's great to hear. I haven't talked to Karl in quite a while, but all the customers I sent his way for ppi's and service have absolutely raved about him on all levels, so it's good to hear he's doing well.

Thanks guys for the kind words. Actually I came in 3rd in that event out 91 cars entered. Scary at first but what a blast. The track was so rough that a CD that we forgot to remove from the passenger side of the car ended up under the gaspedal in 25 pieces by the end. Remember the big transmission tunnel a Diablo has. It must have flown right by my face without me seeing it.
People at the track were taking bets if "the guy in the Lambo" was going to take his car out. One of my clients who also competed said. "You don't know him but I do, he will be out there."
I understand that that video has had several million hits since it was aired.
