When looking on ebay at 550 and 575 for sale, there is only 1 rossa corsa 550 for sale now and 0 575 for sale. Wasn't rossa corsa the most popular color in terms of sales? Just curious why that is, seems odd.

IMO, red is not the best color for a 550 / 575. Many are silver, grey, black, blue. I think all of those look better and it seems that red is a minority with 550 / 575 but that might just be my perception.

I dont have it infront of me but the spreadsheet taz made im pretty sure when i looked at a while back, red was 48% of the ones produced thats why its confusing to me. A quick look on ebay now they're all blue, gray, black but the most produced color seemingly none are for sale

    edit: found it

I wouldn't say RC was the most popular color for the 550/575/456 series. Silvers greys and blues were far more common coming through the dealership than red.

Couldn't prove that by my observations working at the largest volume dealer in the US at the time. Blue/silver/grey/black sounds far closer to reality to me.

World wide? Who knows. I certainly didn't see it.

That chart is 575 only and I assume world wide.

I also learned long ago that if the information comes from Ferrari it needs independent confirmation. I don't take their word for the sun coming up tomorrow.

RC is something of a "default colour" for Ferraris, so it makes sense. And Terry doesn't usually get these things wrong!

Why few are for sale is a mystery - maybe because their owners like them too much to sell them (I know I do!):)

PS I just checked: 11 red 550s (inc. 3 barchettas) for sale on Pistonheads (UK).

It is only 575, but take the 575 and look on ebay now, there's maybe 12, not a single red one and that was half the production? Just seems odd.

And 5 red 575s (not inc. SAs, which are separately listed). There are also 2 red 575s on PH which are for sale in the US and one 550 ditto.

I don’t know about the 550/575 cars, but for the 456Ms, the most popular colors were as follows:

    1) Grigio Titanio
    2) TdF
    3) Argento
    4) Nero
    5) Grigio Ingrid

The rarest (1 of each): Grigio Scaglietti, Blu Le Mans, and Bianco Avus
And of course, there were far more 550/575s in Rosso Corsa, but only two 456Ms.

If you read the title of the chart more carefully you will see that it is for the sum of all models during the years of 575 production. It is not for 575s only.

Have watched these cars over the years. It’s hot and cold. Sometimes they all seem to be red sometimes the majority is silvers or black. It’s random. I would agree that RC is the most popular color, by what margin have no idea. I do agree with most the long timers on here that Titanium suits the design the best. Most first time Ferrari owners such as myself purchase red.

You don't explain what these 456M colours relate to. Not worldwide, surely as it is certainly incorrect. Maybe you mean US only but, if so, it still doesn't seem correct. Certainly more than two US 456Ms in Rosso Corsa. Or when you say 456M are you including both auto and manual transmission?

I see that now. Goes more to my point then I guess. It has always seemed the buyers of the big cars were more likely to explore different colors but for the most part the entire conversation is based on casual observation relying sometimes on old memories. We are also sort of combining several colors and stacking that number against R/C. It may well be silver/grey/blue combined in the USA overwhelms R/C sales in the USA. Some models in history are the reverse of that. I do know Titanium all by itself was very popular during the 550 run in this country.

You are quite right. Back in 2013 I posted a split of the colours of the 550s and 575s in my database. I have the numbers to hand but haven't updated them for subsequent additions. For US 550s I had 594 in total of which:
    84 Black
    94 Blue
    6 Gold
    4 Green
    119 Grey
    8 Light Blue
    160 Red
    73 Silver
    2 White
    44 Yellow

So the largest number of cars are red (but including Rosso Corsa and other reds) but only a quarter of the total.

What everybody except 82 deduced is correct. Those numbers are for all Ferraris, not just the V12s. Rosso Corsa for the V8s is way more popular than it is for the V12s. Those numbers came from Ferrari Magazine, the official factory publication. Here is the complete set in multiple formats. I chopped it down for my table in the 575 SN and AN document.

My friend, you answered your own question. Because it is/was the most popular color at the time, the owners do not seem to want to let them go. ;)

I would imagine a lot of people keep them in their collection of similarly spec'd red Ferraris...therefore you probably don't see as many of them coming up for sale.

Red is the color of love. And love is the most powerful thing or should I say asset of the universe. That is probably why people don’t want to sell them!!
