Just about all of them at least the ones 10 years or older have stoies, think about it a car 10+ years old never having a scratch a ding a dent a "story" If you accuse someone of their car having a story you will need to prove it or essentially it never happened. Wade
Point well made. Last time I went for "diminished value" on my '77 the adjuster looked at me and said "all cars that old have been hit SOMEWHERE" I think we're looking for stories here like, "I bought my car at auction, and when we dropped the tank looking for fuel problems, found six kilos of Coke". Got any stories like that?? PS I did get $500 to replace "Custom graphics" Amanda... come here honey! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was working my first gig as a Photojournalist in Halifax Nova Scotia and being a seaport there was always odd things like that going on. One was a freshly imported 930 turbo that the RCMP (Mounties) waited just out side autoport for. The guy who imported it signed all the paper work and drove out only to be met with a roadblock. Inside the fenders, door skins Trunk liner head liner and seats....COKE! Another time a berry berry fast Cigarette boat full of bullets washed up they figure it was skuttled off Florida and made its way along the gulf stream.... Also the 70 foot long sailing boat that one of the fishery inspectors noticed seemed to have a water line painted too high up on the side of the hull.... Tons of Grass and Hash. But for the really good "Deloreanish" stories there is a legendary former racer from florida who seemed to have an interesting life, but I think he was mostly into porsches....
That's funny SLAG!! I always get my first cup of coffee with the change from under the seat! Good Cigarette boat story, too! Keep 'em coming!
Of course, the old 308s had that microswitch in the driver's seat, right? So one morning I knock the jumper out of the plug with my hand without realizing it. Steaming coffee full in my lap, pull out into a 80MPH four lane full of traffic, only to stall 1/4 mile later.......no fuel pressure! pump circuit out! Remembering the famous Daytona finish, I say WTF, and start grinding the starter motor for about 500 feet where I could pull off safely. Keep the battery charged! Towed to the shop, my tech pretty quickly traced out to the problem under the seat. Sent the starter off, took days. He said: "Man I've never seen a starter THAT torn up!" Me: whistling, looking up at the ceiling... signed a check, and left. I think coffee set me back $400.00 that morning!
About 15 years ago a local drug dealer got busted. The Feds impounded his Ferrari 308. It took about three years and they finally auction it off at the dealership. The guy that bought it had us do a service on it because it had been sitting for so long. While it was on the lift the technician reaches his hand up into the air intake on the driver side and pulls out a brick of Cocaine. He paces around trying to decide what he should do and finally gives it to the service manager. We called the DEA and they came down and picked it up. We asked what would have happened had they pulled the new owner over on the way home and then found it - his reply was we would be doing the auction all over again. They had this car in impound for over 3 years and never found it.
If it is what I'm thinking, when you sat on the seat the fuel pump would run, if nobody was in the seat the pump would shut off. Is that right?
I bought a small Chevy Luv pickup YEARS ago from a dealer. The car was unbelievably clean and only had a few thousand miles on it. I drove it for a few weeks and was cleaning it. I just happened to open the ashtray and lo and behold it was FILLED with you know what. The car was so clean I just couldn't believe the detail guys missed it.
No Ferrari for me, I just like reading the forum! Anyways, if anyone is familiar with VW Corrados thats what I own, well the first time I take one for a full respray, I strip the interior, only to find the floor lined with little sheets of sealed packets, these packets contained a white powder. Terrified I call my buddy in Indiana and ask him to lift up his carpet PHEW! Just some odd idea for sound deadening! Kyle
I used to speak regularly to one of the head mechanics at Ferrari of Washington....he mentioned a 'regular' who, days back, had a Testarossa and a 328. Guy brings his car in, they do some interior work, find several kilos of Columbian Flake under the seat. The 'regular' once tried to 'tip' the mechanics with cocaine......those were the days!
