Side note: yes I have checked the tipping, what a bold move by shakey, that was like a super mega pit stategy and he's Alonso, you're Webber and I'm Vettel and it aint looking so good for me, if he picks well, we're screwed, and he aint letting us by...LOL.... I have been in third before going into the last race and it didn't end up so good for me, but we'll see... The bad thing about that last race is I could have got the trifecta had I chose it... Oh well...
And another scenario, all this talk could be for nothing, one of those 3 could crash or not do so well and lap around in 5th or 6th and then it won't matter.... We will see.....
Have you noticed anything in the last couple of races? Something that has happened to more than just one team? A jammed wheel nut at the perfectly wrong (or right) time can decide everything for you... and there is certainly a background lately with that happening more than I have seen in a few years.
I agree. It would be incredibly selfish of Vettel to keep his own teammate from winning the WDC just for the sake of a race win. I know I must sound incredibly naive, but there is a pragmatic aspect to this as well: Vettel may need a favor from Webber one day.
1] Vettel will *somehow* find a way to snap, crackle & pop into Webber 2] Race will finish under Caution, just as Alonso crosses line 3] Pace Car will emerge 4] Intarweb will explode 5] Max will declare something 6] See [4] 7] See [5] 8] Rinse and repeat [6-7]
As someone else said though, it would have to be right at the end of the race, if they are running Vettel->Webber->Alonso... because should anything happen to Alonso, and Vettel wins, he is the WDC. So he would want to wait until the very last lap. That's probably largely why Dietrich is being so vocal about no team orders, because if it comes to that, everyone is going to go ape**** that Vettel moved over.
Red Bull's Horner is tryng to prove something in that he publically stated that Ferrari's move back when was wrong. He has a personal grudge with LdM. He has gone public again and stated that there will be no team orders in Abu Dabi even if it meant giving up the WDC. Keep in mind, the WCC without a doubt IS the most important championship for the team principals. Much money is involved. Ferrari's team orders move was wrong, but for Horner to hurt his own drivers is ridiculous. As for Vettel moving over for Webber, I think Vettel has shown he is too self interested to do that. Webber deserves the WDC, despite the team favoritism towards Vettel. This weekend is a crapshoot.
It wasn't Horner in the interview, it was Dietrich Mateschitz. As for Vettel favoritism, I don't think it exists even close to the level people (including Webber) think it does. I don't think Mark has had a single result be less than it would have been had the team been favoring him the way he/others feel they favor Vettel. And as such, he doesn't "deserve" the WDC anymore than Vettel does.
agreed. red bull will make them do the switch if it means winning both the WDC and WCC. On another hand this is exactly why team orders in a sport is ridiculous. WHh call it a team if you can't collaborate for the greater good? If alonso wins this year he'll probably owe it to Massa moving over for him.
He won't owe it to Massa he'll owe it to the team. It goes along exactly with what you said until the end. It's a team, they are a unit. Fernando is just as much Ferrari as is Massa, Smedley, Guido the mechanic etc...
I don't think Vettel would care. The WCC is secured, and he know he's the future of Red Bull. Helping Alonso would even help him get a seat at the Scuderia sometime in the near future
Alonso and Ham at Mclaren no team orders, battling each other Ferrari wins. Vettel and Webber apparently no team orders, battling each other Ferrari wins...? I'am not a fan of team orders but the results may speak for themselves.
exactly why team orders makes so much sense. if red bull had a lead driver this WCC would be over by now.
I agree, although I presume you mean WDC. Sportsmanship is a concept that seems very difficult to apply to motor racing. Under such restrictive rules the teams have to go to such lengths to gain any advantages they can. And a extreme case is having a hopeless #2 driver smashing into a wall for his team mate to win....is it fair, or is it a brilliant original tactic and should be commended. The rule was brought in to stop the likes of MS and RB making a farce of the sport. The rule is a very grey one, it is one that we know goes on but the powers that be don't want it rammed into the spot light/abused. I haven't got a answer but personally I like to see team mates go at it, until one has a clear advantage, then it should be allowed he then can have his team mate help him..
I think that is a result of no refueling. A 3 second pit stop is hard to recover from if it isn't perfect, but if you have more time while the gas is being delivered, you can make a mistake and recover before the car is full.
I am OK with team orders but those against call it race fixing. To that way of thinking it does not matter if it is Horner, the team, or Vettel. If he pulls over, it's the same thing as team orders and alters the race in the same way that Ferrari did. Saying it up front does not change a thing.
Will Webber pass Vettel if Vettel wants to let him past? I'm not sure that Mark would really want to win the championship win this way, and might simply pull over behind Vettel and let Alonso take it, rather than tainting his own championship.
Webber will take a championship no matter how it's given to him I'm sure. Vettel said he'd pull over to let Webber by in an interview as well.
I agree. If this happens and Webber lets him pass then he'll take it for sure. Otherwise his whole season would be for nothing. That move alone isn't the one thing that would make him WDC, it's his driving all season that would.
And what nobody has really mentioned here is Hami, he has nothing to lose, although it's highly unlikely he will win the championship, he could be a big spoiler for Webber if he qualifies well and gets a good start, and, has a good race...
