What if Fernando woke up one morning realizing that his best shot of becoming a triple WDC was to fill Webbo's vacant RB seat ...

Ha! What a strange scenario. I think Nando would rather retire than be considered Seb's number two. That's a good one!

Seb is not going to roll over to whomever fills Webber's seat. Zo is not going to be a #2 driver. That being said, I still think it's going to be Kimi.

I'd love to see Vettel and Alonso swap seats.

Would be a win/win for everybody:

    - Alonso gets his 3rd title
    - Vettel gets his Ferrari dream fulfilled
    - The sport/fans get the end of the predictable monotony of 4 Vettel WDCs
    - Bernie gets a boost in TV quotas

If I was Alonso, I'd accept the seat. I would then race hard but fairly and plan to have more points than Vettel at the pointy end of the season.

Better than wasting time in the cr@p Ferrari ... but saying that Bryne is back so 2014 might be a truly competitive car.

Naaah, I want to see Vettel beaten at Red Bull and the collapse of the dream team first.

After that, he can go wherever he wants.

Nope, would be idiotic on Alonso's part to jump ship right before a major change in regulations. Ferrari is going to be allowed to develop engines again, one of their strong points and supposedly Byrne is behind the 2014 car. Ferrari's new wind tunnel is slated to be operational in October. There will also be no exhaust blowing, which has been one of Ferrari's main struggles the last few years.

Leaving now would be a mistake, plus he has said he wants to end his career with the Scuderia.

Red Bull's reign in the sun is about over. I've got a good feeling about it...Ferrari was absolutely untouchable in 2004 and then with a rule change much more minor than the ones planned for next year, they became uncompetitive.

As long as Newey is there, I have to disagree. The man's designed 9 WCC cars!

When he was at McLaren he had to bite the dust too, so I don´t see why it couldn´t happen again. Also winning five championships in a row is a very rare occurrence in the history of F1 so I think that the reign of terror of Red Bull will end soon.

The problem is that with the rise of Mercedes I´m not sure that our red guys are the ones who will dethrone them.

Remember that during Schumacher's "reign of terror", particularly in 2002 thru 2004, even Newey's considerable ability wasn't enough to hatch a winner.

Me too but there hasn't been a rule change this major, either.

Aside from the car, Ferrari had Schumacher driving. Even if the others would have had a better car, you never counted him out.

Very true, it helps to have one of, if not THE greatest behind the wheel...but I would never count out Alonso either.

They also had a pretty much exclusive tire deal. It would be silly to think that it was all MS and the team. The rules were pretty much in thier favor and left that way for a good amount of time. This rules change will likely change nothing in the pecking order. RB will continue as it has been. I think the championship is pretty much done for Alonso this year.Red Bull has figured thier car and the tires out while Ferrari has gone backwards. I'd love to see him go to Red Bull. I'm sure he could handle Vettel. The issue is that Vettel, and rightfully so, would not allow him on the team in a million years.

+1 Schumi reign was a completely different formula. Coulthard is openly saying FA is probably beginning to grow tired of Ferrari. Check the BBC for a link. FA is a veteran now not a young driver like Vettel.

He should be looking around given Ferrari's lack of results for the recent seasons. His post race comments were the 'team' need to do something, not 'I' need to do something. He is clearly doing his part.

RB's dominance is fading and will not last in my opinion or should I say "as history has shown and proven"?

Like a fine wine or a cheese, he appears to have matured. :D

It will be interesting to see what happens next year with the change in regulations and the return of Rory Byrne. Will Newey adapt to these regulations as well, and does Byrne still have some of the old magic? If recent form and investment is any indicator, I can't help but feel Mercedes will be in the mix too. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

When you're wrapping the championship up in France, it's not all the tires. You're simply destroying your competition with the best driver and the best car. Besides, Ferrari was never the only car on Bridgestones.

Elaborate please? McLaren had the fastest car from 1998-2000 and the rules barely changed from then on out, Ferrari simply beat them...badly. McLaren was on Bridgestones and switched to Michelins, remember? Where was Newey from 2006-2008 when the V8 era began? Nowhere. Face it, he couldn't get a handle on those regs and that could happen again.

    Bold statement.

You have no way of knowing this. Plus, why would you want to see our top driver go to our biggest rival? No Tifoso would want to see that unless we got Vettel in return or something...and even then I still wouldn't be overly excited about losing Alonso.

Sounds like some bitter McLaren fan babble to me. It's no secret that most British people dislike Ferrari and Schumacher - like I've said before it must have been hard watching your country's drivers and teams get smoked by the reds year after year after year, so I can understand why people make things up.

Where was this Ferrari International Assistance when the rules were changed solely to stop Ferrari domination?

Yep, I'll be waiting for the answer to that one...
