I would go to Havana/Varadero Cuba. For the first week I would rent a house with a driver, chef, and maid. Then venture out into Cuba. Buy and smoke cigars everyday, drink a little rum, just hang out there. Then I would go to the Iberostar resort in Varadero and sit on the beach daily. Amazing beaches there. I would probably hop on a Cubana interisland flight to get on some of the old Russian planes that they still run like the Yakovlev Yak-42RV and Ilyushin IL-96-300. Planes that no North American Airline would get away with flying. Or I would go to South Africa for the World Cup in 2010...which Im planning to do anyway. Or go to Melbourne and see if I could buy a Penthouse Condo in Eureka Tower: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eureka_Tower Edit: Are we suggesting trips for you? I suppose as a US citzen you cannot 'legally' go to Cuba. There are ways
But whatever you do, go to the hardest place now, the one you may not be able to get back to in 5-10-15 years. I have young couples tell me 'We are thinking about moving to...' and I always say 'do it NOW, because the longer you put it off, the less likely you will ever move'. Most of them then started a family here, and then said to me 'we really wish we would have taken your advice and moved when we didn't have kids, now we are kinda stuck here'. Myself, I had awesome job offers in St. Louis, and Los Angeles - 22 years ago. I should have done the STL one, the LA one - the company disappeared in a Wall Street junk bond scandal 2-3 years after the offer to me.. Folks, with the inflation rate where it is today, things are not going to get any cheaper, if you want to travel or move, now is the time.
Fiji or Tahiti, just me and my girl, no phone or any outside communication at all for 14 days...dam that would be a dream
It's winter in Australia in June, though. You want to go there around Christmas. I second Italy, especially if you haven't been. If you want ocean they have that - you can even stay on the Riviera near Monaco and Nice, then it's about 6 hours' drive through Tuscany up to Maranello.
Anywhere, very, very quiet with just a light breeze. My two dogs lying quietly, my wife beside me and my 575 within reach.
