Yeah simon, whats your insurance like? Whats your secret?

On the other subject of waiting lists, three months is not very much at all. I thought they were only bringing in 40 into the UK a year.... so surely there are more buyers than that?

Well I got a call about 10 days ago to ask if I would take a July slot as one of their customers who had ordered some time since, now wanted it in September,so did I want his slot? ahh now let me think...yes please!! The insurance? Well i've only spoken to my current broker, and he's said £2780 fully comp underwritten through Norwich Union. Thats me at age 36, 6pts for speeding, full no claims etc, garaged with a Navtrak. Car is £170k on the rd. I will take it July but if it goes into August i'll take it Sept 1st with the new reg plate. Intrestingly, according to Lambo London the Gallardo premiums are drying up fast so the Murcie seems to be more popular at the mo.I think the new DB9 has something to so with it.Have to confess for £100K that car is stunning..is a Murcie worth another 70K? Hmmm.Too f*****g late now!

Ha ha! yea i will actually.I was asking Trev if he thought you might buy it the other day.Had a bit of a prang Sunday though. Coming out of a hotel car park which was slightly on a slope. Noticed a large rectangular iron plate set into the tarmac bout 2" below the surface.Must conceal some sort of bollard etc.Anyway.front wheels drop into it with a great big f*****g bang. oh **** I thought. It was too,cos when i reversed the lip of this thing catchs the rear of the skid plates and nearly rips off the spoiler and ripping off the panelling underneath and the undertray comes off too.The noise was horriffic.Manager comes out.No point going off on one though, but I told him he'd be hearing from my solicitor.Don't know what chance I have of getting anything.Been to JCT awaiting esimate. All new undertray, pannelling and front spoiler.Marvellous.Will pay for it if i have to,cos its not going through insurance with the excess etc.
    Anyway 355 is Aug 95 Spider,35K Red/mag 4 owners,me last 3 yrs,Tubi no cats,got cats,won't need paint by the time it gets sold(few stone chips)belts done last nov,recent clutch/manifolds.P plate included.Proper drivers Ferrari Steve!! PM me a price mate!!

ahh, the natural progression from 355 Spider to Murcielago - its a beautiful thing. It looks like its going to remain just a dream for me, for the time being at least. Simon, if you ever come down to London, you can have a trip down memory lane in a 355 Spider (mine) in exchange for giving me a ride through London in your Murcie.

I still can't believe it...... 18K! I could buy a whole fleet of Renault 5 GT Turbos for that.

Then just when you get the TUBI, I'm sure an order will go out for some test pipes to replace your CATS :) :)... they should be easier to get hold of though - its just an expensive pipe!

My most expensive quote was in the early 90's when the escort cossie had just come out. I was a student and blagged myself into a test drive. The car cost £23k which was about the size of my overdraft then ! I told the sales guy that I woudl buy it if he found me insurance (which I clearly could not do). He helped me ring around and he came back with the cheapest quote he could find ... £16,000 :D

I did thank him for the drive though.

Ahh and if you think I was bad for doing that, my friend actually signed on the dotted line that he would buy an integrale as long as his test drive did not bring out any faults (It was a car with about 3000 miles from a main dealer !). The test drive went great and when he got out he legged it. He had however given his house details on the form and I think had they not sold the car so soon after the test drive he would have been in serious trouble !!!

A beast of a car with a beast of a reputation at the time. I was whizzing around in 206 1.9Gtis and 5 GT Turbos (as passenger of course) at the time - I remember a race with a cossie out of a little chef carpark once. We lost in an 206 GTi. Those were the days.....

Yeh I second Nowell and Richards, or indeed A Plan as they find similar policies.

Ade, how old are you, as that will be the defining factor?

My 355 spider, when I just turned 24 cost me £3600, the 360 at 25 cost me £2600, although its nearly double the price. (with Privilege, who were pretty good for that age, no one else would quote anything near)

25 years old gives access to more insurers

I was quoted variations from £3K to £8K for the 360 spider (now age 25), and upto £12K for a Murci. I've got that down to £6K with Nowell and Richards.

Definitely speak to Richard, he is great and will explore all possibilities.

Good luck, also let us know what you think of the Murci, as I was going to buy one but it just seems so large and impractical for London. Couple that with the **** I've had to deal with recently has put me off "performance" cars (read flashy)......

oh b0ll0ck$, might still get one ;)

Same reason I didnt go for the Murci. I just felt it would become a chore driving it in London traffic. And I want a car I can drive as much as possible.

    Hey Ali,

Thanks, I'll give Richard a call and see what he can do for the Murci insurance - must be better than 18K ha ha!!! I'm 26 now, with full NCB, so was hoping something the value of a Murci would be a reasonable proposition for insurers. I pay about the same as you at the moment for my 355 spider.

Do you do self-drive car hire? I think I may have met you once at Joe Macari.. getting your 355 Spider hood fixed... (?) may have got wrong person, so apologies.

So what have you had to endure recently?? Is it in another post? I'll let you know how I progress with the Murci idea, for now I think its definately a case of 'enjoy the 355 spider for the summer'

If you fancy a ride out through London sometime.. drop me a PM.

    Cheers
    Ade

Interesting about the comments of the Murci being a bit of a chore to drive. One of the reasons why i've got one on order is cos it is really easy to drive, with a power clutch and a beautifully light gearchange. I do agree they are very wide though. Having to have my double garage altered to get the Murci in,cos at the mo its one of those with a pillar in the middle! I did think very long and hard about an F40, but realistically I do a lot of miles in my 355 and an F40 although wonderful, would just not be suitable, and the parts are far more than a Lambo. Also considered a CS, but it sounds sad but i've never had a V12 before and the CS although a fab car, again is a near race car. What i'd do for one of those too! I'm going to have the Tubi on before delivery, and if I can stretch to it i'm going to replace the rear slats with the see through perspex ones as a lot of Murci's have in the US. I'm intrigued as to why the used Murci's are still so expensive, be interesting to see how long this lasts. I am going to put some serious miles on mine though. Off to Italy on July 5th to visit the factory! Am gonna go to Enzo's place too!!

Clearly my "handle" gives away my impressions on this debate....

To my mind the Murci is the ONLY production supercar that anyone is making at the monent. The 360 CS is the final extrapolation of the 360M - it's the ultimate 360, which is fine if you love 360s but not, if you are not such a big fan.

    The controversial bit:
The F40 is great machine but also a STUPID machine - It is OLD technology now... off-boost the F40 is nothing but a 308QV - on-boost, it is pretty much dangerous; horrendous wheelspin, non-assisted (terrible IMO) brakes, steering that is just too heavy. Damn, it leaks if it starts raining! Outrageous replacement part costs eliminate anything but fleeting summer weekend usage.

The Murcielago has all the ease of the CS AND the supercar quality of the F40 (the CS is NOT a supercar) without the silliness.

The only difficult bit is it's size, which anyone with extensive seat time in "proper" cars can cope it. Yes - even in central London.

    Answer is simple.

Take the £350k, split it into 3 x £50k deposits get some vehicle finance arranged and then buy all three!!

If you get laid off, sell your two least favourites to repay the finance.

    Sorted.

You must admit, it is a little difficult to take you serious with such a strange, vague "public profile" as yours.

I can understand your skepticism. There seem to be no shortage of teenage "dudes" on this website claiming to be "commercial real-estate developers" who own $1m worth of machinery. I lay claim to owning NOTHING. (although I might have a "car" worth mentioning ;) )
After lurking for many months on this website I have decided to finally post, modelling myself on the ubiquitous but equally vague identity of "Mr Doody" (although he HAS posted pictures of the cars he quite clearly owns).

I hope you can "enjoy" my profile... and still take me seriously. And should I be an imposter may I be rooted out and shamed!!! (will there ever be another to match our 288GTO and 275 GTB/C owning STEVE328!!??).

P.S. With reference to the thread subject, I would be interested to know how many 360 CS buyers are NOT trading out of a 360 or are not ex-360 owners. I am sure there aren't many, proving my theory that this car is not really an alternative for someone who had previously NOT considered a 360M/spider.
