Have any of you seen the top gear video, or jeremy clarksons magazine, where he did a supercar test, Ferrari F40, Mclaren F1, Lamborghini Diablo, Jaguar Xj220, Bugutti EB110...
Clarkson said it all came down to the F40 and the Mclaren, and although he respected the Mclarens Technological advancements, and the fact that no expense was spared on it, He said "i belive nothing will be as fun to drive as the little Ferrari"
AND, it WAS the Ultimate supercar in its time...

For the 40th aniversary of Ferrari in 1988 Ferrari released the F40
Challenged by such cars as the Porsche 959 as being the fastest road car in the world, Ferrari Came up with the F40 at the same time.
The body made from a kevlar honeycomb construciton and a formula 1 like chassis, accompined by 2 racing seats and nothing else but brutal power and superpb handleling gave Ferrari the edge on Hitting the Number one spot!!
The F40 Had become the fastest road car in the world. The twin turbo intercooled V8 will produce 478bhp at 7000rpm which will accelerate the F40 to a top speed of 324km/h - 201 - 202mph

I would respect anyone passionate enough to choose the F40 over the F1, but not if they do it because Jeremy Clarkson said so. He's a comedian, making hilarious quips and comparisons about cars. But you can't take his banter as serious commentary.

I'd take an F1 over any car ever made. It's the best car of all time. It's in a league of it's own. What can even come close to being as good as the F1? Nothing. Sure, the F40 is awesome. It's a great supercar. Perhaps this is a subjective choice, but I'd go with the F1.

This is one of those impossible decisions for me. I am extremely Ferrari biased, and the F40 is onf of my favourite Ferraris, but the F1 is definatley the greatest super car ever made. I can't make a decision just yet.

This looks like a kit car????
I love things in the red camp but I would take the F1 everyday. Now and enzo might get the nod.

The F1 has 627hp and was finally top ended at over 240 mph. I believe that this topped the F40 by quite a lot. BTW, I love the F40 but would rather have the F1 if mney were no object...............

Just got back from Lime Rock, where there was brown F1 from Mass.
Went out to eat in a bad thunderstorm with a tornado watch....
    The McLaren was there too.

Dave, you sure it was brown? Got any pictures? I am only aware of one black and two silver F1s in MA. Even if it was from somewhere else, I am not aware of any brown F1s. One was painted brown, but repainted in a hurry. So I am curious if you could have mistaken some other color for brown...did you get a good look/any pictures?

    Thanks.

FERRARI! A Mclaren is for preppy people that listen to numbers(a number means nothing but style is everything).

Im thinking it was black after asking someone else with me. Had vanity plates with McLaren spelled out save a letter or two.
Believe it was with Turner Motorsports. Unfortunately no pics.

There are two F1s at Turner Motorsports. A black one (regular F1) and an LM that only comes in Papaya orange (2 were black out of the 5 though).

    LM: http://www.dugmar.smugmug.com/gallery/71983
    F1: http://www.dugmar.smugmug.com/gallery/323664

The guy who took the photos is a good friend of the ower, who owns both, Frank Selldorff (sp?).

Edit: Notice the Turner Motorsports stickers on the LM. It's also parked in front and in their shop in a few pics.

Actually, the F40 would be the subjective choice. The F1 exists in the very rare air of supercars, and there is no real performance comparison.

I'm a subjective sort, so I would go with the F40 if it were altered to accomodate 6'3". The McLaren is an awesome set of wheels though. Truth is, I'd never hit top speed in the F40 much less the F1.

    F40 - 201mph from 2.9L is most impressive.
