...what would you choose?
Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull. Vettel will veto, so that's a no go. Hamilton either quits or has 2 years contract, so if I was ricci I'd choose 2 years Red Bull. In 2021 F1 isn't so engine dependent anymore.
Unless Mercedes or Ferrari change their minds, he hasn´t many options. If Honda messes it up again, Renault could leapfrog Red Bull next year, but I wouldn´t take the risk: I´d take the big check from Helmut Marko and wait for an opportunity in 2020.
They wont go back to Renault for a year. Cost too large. they'll stick with Honda 2 years if they don't deliver they'll be building their own with Aston martin (if they're not doing that already) for 2021
Well, I was thinking in an opportunity for Ricciardo: a seat could appear at Mercedes, Ferrari or whoever is winning then.
Yep...but the only seat he'll realistically get at either team would be if their lead driver leaves (Ham or Vet). In the very near future, the only hope Ric has is that Hamilton indeed does leave Mercedes (and thus F1), and his much talked about contract is quite simply brand ambassador. That's what Ricciardo is waiting for now, he is Mercedes' obvious option.
I'm not sure Ricci hasn't missed the boat and is past his prime. He's fast...but I don't sense he is faster. Hamilton is on a flat plateau. So are Vettle and Kimi. They've been at their best and it can only be down hill from here. Whether or not you catch the brass ring, sooner than later time passes you by. Bottas, Perez, Hulkenberg, Sainz, also seem to have evolved into second tier drivers. The only three hungry and fast drivers on the grid that I see as future WDC are Max, Gasly and Leclerc.
He'll stay with Red Bull. He is treated fairly there and they have expressed to him that they want to keep him. He has fun there and is competitive. He stays with Newey and company.
Ferrari has the better engine, but their strategy guys just stumble over things, they are just too late on making calls, and make the wrong calls. You aren't winning championships that way unless your car is fast enough those strategy calls do not matter. Red Bull on the other hand, does not have the power unit, but their strategy guys make perhaps one mistake per season. Ferrari it seems like half the races they get it wrong. For Daniel, he wants a championship. He will go with whoever he knows will have the better car. If he goes to Ferrari, that is a good sign for that next season for Ferrari. If he resigns at Red Bull, then that is a sign that Honda may actually have something going on. I do not have that info, I voted stay at Red Bull, Ferrari can be a mess. Ricci, like Vettel, does want to be a Ferrari F1 driver. Just a F1 championship comes ahead of that.
i don't think this is a discussion anymore right? it's been made clear ricci's intentions are to join mercedes, but hamilton is holding things up. the likelihood is hamilton will extend his contract w merc and red bull will retain both their rb drivers. only plausible switch up i see hamilton would remotely want is to ferrari, but we all know vettel is a poo-c and will veto such a move to the death...
To me the best option for Ricciardo is to stick with RB fo one year in the hope there wiil be a better opening next.
The Honda cars are both either at or over the limit for every power unit component...grid penalties for every change. BTW, we're going into race 9 of 21. I tend to agree with the thought that DR may have played his career wrong and might never see a WDC.
Italian motorsport reporting Ricci doesn’t want to agree the 2-year contract as he wants to be free in 2020
2 years with Red Bull. I cannot foresee any interesting seat available at the end of next year for him.
So, I was wrong! I hope Ricciardo makes the most of his choice, and that Renault will make good progress in the next 2 years..
And just realised one was me! I think he did the right thing anyways. Renault is definitely on the up. Red bull not so sure
