One of my first crew chiefs did it. Couldn’t get him out of the cockpit so he sat on his lap.
Think he got an air medal for it IIRC.

I think I understand enough that, with reasonable assistance, I could get a plane onto the ground in relative safety. It likely won't smell so good inside, however.

Interestingly my wife just this week took a ‘emergency landing’ course with my cfi to learn how to put her down in an emergency if I was incapacitated. She walked away from it greatly empowered. Apparently she made 12 landings. So much for my new tires and brakes!

Chartered a helicopter years ago for two of my friends that share a birthday. Pilot was a Vietnam vet but I think he was probably pretty old back then too... We are ripping through a canyon and I casually say through the headset "what happens if you have a heart attack"? He very directly replied "you'd all be facked"

No...wouldn't be able to get through the cockpit door. If I was already in the cockpit, I'd be the dead pilot, as I'd never fly a plane that needs an extra person around to fly it. Extra pilots are what...food in case you crash on some deserted island?

I know the basics. In the past, I have logged over 2.5 hours in a Cessna doing nothing but touch and go's, at an uncontrolled airport, in S. Arizona :). I have done this a few times. It sure is fun landing an airplane. It really is kewl, if you can bring it in and your wife could be sipping hot tea, at the time you hit the numbers :D.
