What are the correct points condensor for a single distributor model 308. My points on one bank are notched. The other side are clean but the condesors do not have any ID specs.

The dual lead condensors I have didn't have any markings on them, but the single lead condensors had this:

    Magneti Marelli - CE29T (microfarad) 0.25

Here in Canada (and it is applicable to the U.S. as well), Echlin MA-3 condensors from NAPA auto parts are the correct size and microfarad rating and are a good substitute for the single lead condensors only. The old "FAF Tuning Tips & Maintenance Techniques" book by Gerald Roush and John Apen suggest GM condensors although not which model of GM car. They do mention those are rated at 0.18 microfarad. I haven't found anywhere a dual lead substitute for the original Marelli version.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks for your response Peter that is exactly what I needed to know.

I can conclude from that info that I probably have two different condensors. The lower rating condensor being on the points that are notched.
From my days at the Tafe college as an apprentice mechanic, I remember my teacher saying "notch negative, not enough". That means if the points have a notch (small indent from arching) on the earthside of the points, then the condensor is not rated high enough.
I suspected I had the wrong condensor on one side but didn't know how much higher to go.

    Thanks again Peter
