    Hey guys-

So I recently bought the intellectual rights (domain name) to iLamborghini.com (www.iLamborghini.com). It's completely undeveloped, not even a cover page. I don't really have the time or patience to develop it myself.. What's it worth? How would I go about selling it?

    Thanks!

Not sure if you'll be allowed to sell it because of the name. www.bmwm5.com was forced to sell the domain name to BMW because of the use of their name. Audi might do the same for you.

Edit: Hmm...it looks like maybe the ruling was changed for BMWm5.com, strange...

Try these guys, they'll appraise it, give you an idea of value and even help you find a buyer, for a price, of course.

They were very helpful to me when I was trying to decide if I should buy a particualr domain name. Although their pricing seemed to me to be a bit optimistic (high), so keep that in mind.

Domain names of copyrighted and trademarked entities are illegal and have to be given to the owner on demand. Because of that I would say your name is worth nothing because you would have to give it to Lambo should and when they ask for it.

You will note looking there that every name they have listed is generic. No company names or proper names at all.

Sorry to rain on your party.

It's worth about $7.95 and maybe a cease and desist from lambo that you may be able to sell on ebay.

Not at all true. Or at least not quite true :) You can buy up as many domain names as you want that may contain copyrighted/trademarked names. You do NOT have to "give to the owner on demand" under any circumstances. Problem is, they can prevent you from developing or using the domain.

Best examples I can give are any website with the word porsche in it: You can own it, but it will have to sit as a boat anchor.

I've always wondered what if my buddy David FORD bought ford.com 15 years ago, if they could force him to give it up ?
I mean, by all rights, some lawyer would come along and force him to change it to davidford.com, but then they should force ford motor company to use henryford.com ???????

And, there are tons of other 'ford' corporate names, such as ford van lines, the ford bar and grill, etc. same goes for 'chevy', which is not really 'chevrolet', no ?

But I guess the silly laws of the land would force david ford to give up his own name since he didn't register it as a trade name years ago (like Earnhardt Sr. did with 'Earnhardt', which Jr. was JUST NOW able to buy back/use from Teresa (Sr.'s wife)), but that begs back to the issue of ford van lines, etc.

If you try and make money off of the lambo name there can be big problems.

    Doc.

You contact them by email, they do a valuation of the site name. They list a GAZILLION generic names which probably lends credence to the argument that trying to sell a domain name that has a "lamborghini" "ferrari" or for that matter "formica" is nearly impossible.

doesn't mean that they won't give you a valuation, just means they don't list names they can't sell.

A few years ago the Potato Growers of Alberta were coerced (with big $$ I take it) to sell PGA.COM to the golf assoc. I'm not making it up, but it is kind of funny back home there is a potato club!!!
