No longer free access, only paid subscriptions?? What's going on here
I will want to see that thing totally up to date before I subscribe, but I would subscribe for sure if it was regularly kept up to date. A valuable resource for sure.
i noticed it too. I dont quite understand that much of the vehicle information is provided by the owners yet if they want to see it they have to subscribe? I would imagine having a general vin # and photo should be better and thus still encourage owners to provide info. And if people want to know more about the car, and its history, then they could subscribe....
Glen, I don't care about paying a fee, but the previous comments written are true...how an owner can read something about his car without a basic access ? It's making money on anybody who is willing to access it. A basic access to the VIN should have been offered and to read more about a specific VIn, then you have to pay the fee, is this difficult for you to re work your website ??? Another point, about your Forum...we didn't expect you just add another Forum on the net...they are plenty of them already, what does this contribution will add ??? IRL is to me the source for VINs Registry, but you don't even put links to additionnal work that has been done more deeply & more completed as well as Miura Registry, Jarama Registry, Islero Registry... I've registered but while paying through your automatic/direct Paypal link => it's **** up there is no direct access to payment page...then conclusion no possibilities to buy you a level of access... You don't even list somewhere your Paypal account number in order to do payment from our Paypal account !!!! What about someone who doesn't have Paypal account, but only a creditcard ??? Then, impossible to have a look on all your expected updates... Let us know HOW we can pay in order to have access ???? Ciao, Olivier LCB President www.Jarama Registry.com
I'm with Olivier, springing this on us suddenly with minimal information is not the way to make friends. I couldn't find any price list on the site (everything links back to a registration page). You have a nice site, but it is clearly a work "in progress". If you're "going pro" with it and want us to help out it's understandable but a little dialogue about your plans for the site would be nice. Many of the entries are anciently out of date (I have some info and photos of a Miura I've been working on to submit), are you going to be keeping up on it? Bottom line, how much? what do we get for it? Glen, send me a PM or an email if you want to discuss this "off the record".
i think the best thing is to keep the old site until you have the new site with the bugs worked out.... Because a nonfunctional site can turn people away real quick....
I understand the need to have some income from the efforts, but as many mentioned, not the way to do it, especially since most of the info comes from the owners themselves. I became a member of the Lambo club of Canada and I got a few stickers and one newsletter. I hope this site is done more comprehensively.
Right now there is forum for each serious Lamborghini writer on internet and they are all "free" (sponsors brings the money even for this one), Why should I pay for one? True fact is; there are very few of us who are able to do something for their car and even fewer are willing/able to write this or show photos of this, the true esence of forum. "The Vintage Lamborghini Garage" seems to promote ILR which brings me to an other susbject; I can't red the damn thing!!! VLG is too time consuming to read, in that way ILR would hopely to be "new age" VLG. In that case I would pay for beeing able to read VLG properly.
It's time consuming so getting paid to do it is justified, but it is way too out of date to bother paying for the current site. More people would visit and use it if it were updated and then the increase in traffic would bring sponsors that could pick up the bill.
I'm not thrilled. Though good for me I don't mind paying. No good for the 20 or 30 people I steer to the site to see my cars and others. They won't paid (aka kids, students, families) Basically paid to see eachothers cars that we see on forums anyway.
i gladly paid for subscription (after years of usefull ILR i think 35$ is reasonable) it does not worck at 100% yet some bugs to be sorted out...but nothing major some new things around, i hope to see more updates soon
Okay, guys. I understand your complaint with having to pay. In my mind you and not paying to view YOUR information. What is being paid for is the time it takes in getting the information on the site. But how else do you do it without charging to view? Then you will also have people complaining "why should I have to pay to register my car?" Bottom line is that running a Registry of this sort is a HUGE job. I think you have learned that Olivier (not picking on you here but you are likely the only one who understands). Other people/owners do not understand and figure that their cars should always be the priority getting added. Not everyone can be priority. So I choose the way I choose what gets added and when. All of the registries are CONTINUOUSLY being updated daily even though you may not see new pages being added. This will be changing shortly. In order to please everyone I will be running the site full time instead of only a few hours a night in my spare time. That wasn't keeping people happy. Perhaps the new effort will. Payment for membership will allow me to pay others to assist. I know that some have offered help but when I tried allowing more people access and allowed them to actually make updates and changes this privilege started being abused by owners wishing to make their cars appear better historically than they were in order to increase value. That system is done. Some controls were necessary. And so the task will go to a select few enthusiasts who have nothing at stake in the automotive investment world to do the work and to ensure that more updates are made and the HUGE backlog of new pages is attended to. There are possibly some 10,000 cars on my computer waiting to be added. If you would like to see all of those pages added before the next century comes to a close then this is how it will be done along with many more useful features. I have said before that I have sunk more money than anyone into this project and if anyone has a right to complain about the cost it is I. If any of you would like to give up your precious Lamborghini as I have to take on this task in your own way then you can drop it off at my house. I have given up more than the cost of my dream Lambo (now 10 years overdue) and am lowering my standard every day in the hope that maybe one day I might have the pleasure of owning one myself. I do enjoy doing this work and am going to do everything in my power to make this site better. It is NOT JUST A FORUM as most if not all of these others sites are (sorry Fchat but it's true)! If you want to have a share and see all of the updates that are coming then support us. If not then go and sit in your $100,000 Lamborghini and sulk in your garage complaining about a $35 fee (a lot less than a tank of gas) and do what you want to do. I am growing tired of defending the site and my hard work and my money spent for the benefit people who don't listen, don't care to listen and don't understand what it takes to answer several hundred emails a day helping people and running a site like this out of the goodness of my heart. This decision is not open for discussion. It's a member site or NO SITE. The choice is your to support or not.
Glen, The price isn't an issue but the approach is. I've extended the offer to discuss this "off site", if you'd prefer to do it here that's fine. You'll never get people to join with ultimatums. You may rightfully feel unappreciated but most of us are unaware of your anguish. If you're sick of whining prima-donnas you're not alone.
Glen, did you read my comment? your site has been a terrific help for me in these years you won't hear a complaint from me for 35$ membership i already gladly paid .... and i will get a lifetime next time as long as the site will get quick updates i am ALL for paing for the service may be the only thing i would have done was to let some basic infos on the VINs free...but it is your site and you can do what you think is best keep up the good worck!
From time to time Glen announced that we sooner or later must pay to enter the Registry. I remember corresponding posts to VLG (hope I'm right here) and pms from Glen. Should I be the only guy that knew about the change in the form of ILR, then I understand why Glen did not discuss the issue off site with you, I think he is tired of sending the same message to dozens of people. I think that USD 35 is a ridicolous price for a Lamborghini owner that used ILR for years (nearly) without paying, so I will join. I hope that Glen will be successful with the new ILR and that he will find the time to implement the necessary corrections to the site. He will get the necessary support from all over the world, and I understand his decision not to grant unlimited access to owners which might abuse their rights. So it is a good decision to install a "controlling gremium" in order to evaluate highly interesting incoming information. I can live with that as I can prove everything what I say about my cars. Glen and Tim, you both seem to be correct guys. None of you should have a problem with each other.
There's got to be free access. To some point. As I've said, I've directed young kids (because it is a fun, safe, & cool site), groups of students of all ages, and families. I think these people should be able to access for free...maybe to a certain point, maybe all the pictures on the registry and a one or two sentence about the car/owner. Then a paid membership to access all the history on each car. The history is what's worth the paid membership. But, hey, it's Glen's baby....what he says is it. FWIW if anyone is interested in reading this part, a for instance. Was at a gas station. Group of students in a bus in the parking lot. ALL got off to see the Countach. I talked with some but not all. They wanted Lambo websites (this is what made me realize that the net is the only source of info they will use and are interested in...example, younger people do not use a phone book from what I'm told). Anyway, I told them if they go to International Lamborghini Registry they'd get more info on my car (mine is one of those 10,000 updates waiting) and a whole boat load of information on others.
The main pages for each model and variant of Lamborghini and many other pages are viewable for free. Once you get into the Registries it is for members only.
Very very fair. Glen, I am sure as time goes by, you will tighten the screws and de-bug any glitches. We are all indebted to your labor of love which has contributed to the Lamborghini marque for many years, and your being compensated for your time is long overdue in fact.
Well said. Glen has spent countless hours with the ILR, treating it as a labour of love. There are a number of successful business people and entrepreneurs on this site. They obviously do not give their goods, services or intellectual property away for free. I think the cost of admission to the site is fair, and if it will lead to more timely and accurate information, it is a small price to pay.
Hear hear. I love how people have a tendency to forget that they too make a living by being compensated and toss the word "free" around a bit too freely!
I have been saying this for years,if people put time and money into something that helps others they should be able to charge a fee,I own 4 classic lamborghini and will be more than happy to support Glen and his site, you should not own a Lamborghini if you can't afford it,they have always been expensive and always will be,this is what makes them exclusive.
