Well, I went to get some new tires last night, and my Subaru has Bridgestone Potenza RE92's on it. They are horribly expensive for a moderate but not great tire. Including installation I was quoted up to $230 for one tire, Costco has them for $154.

I got talking with the tire guys about other options, and they recommended a Traction T/A tire from BF Goodrich. They mentioned that it's a subsidiary of Michelin. $114 installed. I'm going to get 2 now, maybe 2 more.

Right now, am I loyal to Bridgestone for their F1 performance to the tune of $80+? Is it worth that much to me?

    No.

In fact, the opposite argument could be made: Michelin decided to pull out their cars when it was unsafe, whereas Bridgestone/Firestone had its little issue with SUV tires not functioning properly and failed to act in a timely manner.

When Ferrari used team orders to deny Rubens victory at Zeltweg the public was outraged and many said they'd cancel their Ferrari purchases.

In the long run, I think that wasn't even a noticeable blip on Ferrari's sales radar.

Same thing will happen to Michelin. In a couple weeks time the USGP will be remembered as an oddity in the history books. "Why didn't they race again? Dunno. Something was wrong with the track I believe. There was an issue with the Goodyear tires they used. Something like that. Ah yes."

I have Bridgestones that came on my '04 Chevy 2500 HD 4x4 and just recently put replacement Michelins back on a '97 Chevy 2500 HD 4x4. I had exceptional service with the prior Michelins and replaced with larger ones of the same flavor to the tune of about $900. In fact they didn't have the same size as what was on the truck and asked if we had a problem with getting the next size up at no cost! Both the C320C and SLK350 have Michelins too.

Despite the fact that 4 out of 6 of our vehicles are Michelin shod, we remain true to Ferrari!

Yeah, I went in expecting to pay nearly $400 for 2 Potenzas, but instead was looking at $460 for all 4 tires from BFG. I'm starting with two to try them out (since I only *need* 2 right now).

One thing people seem to forget is, that Michelin is very much tied to the history of Ferrari. Our team has won many championships with the help of the French rubber.

Bridgestone is a more recent development and hence I don't feel a strong loyalty with them anyway. Heck a few weeks back we were all ready to dump them.

I had two major blowouts on Goodyear Eagles with my 'vette. They blew a hole in the wheel wells and I wasn't going over 80mph.

    Wow!

We were zipping along quite nicely through 13. Would have been nasty to test the safer barriers...

My Vette rolls on Pirellis btw.

If you're looking for performance all-season, you might also check the Conti Extreme Contacts or the Avon Tech M550 A/S.

If you don't do much freeway driving, you might prefer a good performing snow tire for year round use in the snow belt, such as the Dunlop WinterSport M3.

But the Internet is your friend -- you can start with tirerack, but you can google for any tire model and find reviews on boards all over.

The Conti Extreme are excellent tires. Just put them on my GS400. The bridgestones and Mich were 1,400CDN for all 4 and the Pir pzeos were 1250. I went with the COnti for $800. Still a z rated tire on a 17 inch wheel for half the money and the tread is nice.

The RE92s are terrible tyres, I have them on my Saab 92x. I was planning on replacing them with Pirelli PZeros but after the Michelin announcement I might get the Pilot Sport A/S I was originally looking at.

Not to sound like a Michelin basher here but i have never been a fan of them I have used them on my road vehicles, Motocross bikes and have never had any success with them.

My biggest grip is that the side walls are too soft even on the MX tires where i had 3 different tires get the sidewall shreaded by rocks in less than a month. With my Dunlops and Bridgestones the sidewalls helt up. Yes the rim inturn got bent but i much rather ride on a bent wheel then with a flat tire that is chunking apart when i am 10 miles away from my truck.
