Well i guess everyone gets into an accident sometime, today happened to me mine. Its snowin pretty hard out and my friend who lives on the other side of my development calls me up and tells me to come over to get some food left as his house. Being as hungry as i am, i let my stomach do the thinking and i jump in the 94 Buick Roadmaster that i usually drive. I start off slowly down my street. At the end is a traffic circle, i start to brake for that. I guess i somehow braked to hard and the back comes whippin out, i counter steer but to no avail, the front jumps the curb on the other side of the road and the back seat passenget door blindsides a lamp post. Glass shatters. that sound still is ringing in my head. After i scream several expletives i get out of the car the inspect the damage. The door got absouletly violated. I take two deep breaths and call my house, which by the way i can still see. My mom answers and i tell her, she responds "Ill be right down" She starts walking down, i can only imagine what is going through her head. She gets closer, i wipe the smile off my face, and she screams, "how the hell did this happen? Are you ok?" I tell her i dont know and that im fine. She walks around to the other side and sees the damage. Im ready for the battle now, but no, she is calm. We push the car out on to the street i get in and drive it back home. What pissed my off the most was that 2 more cars drove by and not one even slowed down to ask if i was alright or anything, what the hell is wrong with the world. Final assesment: The passenger door will def have to be replaced, but i dont know if they make doors for 11 yr old cars. All i can do now is wait.
I was there as well Patty mac! I got hit by a deer(hit the side of the car) literally. My parents handled it well and the car got fixed. I was more mad then anyone else. The good thing is noone got hurt. Erik
You can most likely find a good used door, maybe even the same color for $350 to $450. If you were to replace the door with all new parts you are looking at closer to $1200. Your insurance will not pay for new with that old a car. Good luck.
This, too, shall pass, my friend... Look at this way: you popped your cherry... It's done, it's over with, it happened, no one got hurt, you saw how easy it is for something to go wrong, you weren't doing anything you shouldn't have and that's it... i bet mom and dad have both been in your shoes before... Don't let it get you down, though, dude... they call them "accidents" for a reason... Best thing to do, though, is to get back in the car right away... Go drive somewhere, preferably in bad weather...
The best part about learning your lesson this way is that you didn't hit any other cars. When I was 16 (less than a month after I got my license), I was piloting my '86 GTI around a poorly designed intersection. Directly after the light, the road curves away onto another street. Traffic going the other way was lined up through the curve, witing for the light. Being the idiot kid I was, I was messing around with the trip computer through the curve, and the traffic blocked my peripheral vision from seeing the pickup stopped in the road, trying to turn into a lumber yard. I close my eyes, slam on the brakes, and still hear the crunch in my sleep. July 21, 1996. I'll never forget that day. Luckily the nose went down on the GTI, so I barely dinged the guy. Bent his bumper down. He was happy to go outside the insurance company, and signed an injury waiver. To top it off, I was just quickly dropping a friend off, so I was neither wearing any shoes nor carrying my wallet. To this day I always throw a pair of shoes in my trunk. But, its a good thing you didn't get hurt, nor hurt anybody else.
Good thing you're OK, and that it happened on a slow street. Been there, and it's kind of a freaky thing at the time.
Glad your alright man. 285ferrari is right with what he said about cars being replaceable and people not.
Now next time you hop into your ride, say this outloud three times... "I am not playing gran turismo 4, I am driving a 94 Buick. In real life." Just bustin your balls. Happens to everybody at some point. Learn from it.
Do not report to insurance. As an inexperience driver they will hammer you on points. Much cheaper to pay out of your pocket
CKE, First off, glad your OK! Safety first!!! ThiMk about this. Tell your parents how much you love them and how much you appreciate the fact they MADE you learn to drive such an incredibly safe, inexpensively repaired, 20 foot long, 5 thousand pound land yacht and that their incredible foresight paid off! This will throw them for a loop and get you one step closer to a 3 series replacement! DL ps. does it have a Landau roof too? Oh my!
Thats exactly what me and my friends call it, the land yacht. Im pushin for a 3 series or G35. It does have the roof, and fake wood siding. I love her.
pics???? Glad to hear you are ok....... and it sounds like you should aim for an Audi, given your climate!! It happends to everyone, yet after 11 years of driving I have yet to become everyone........
Quick...Knock on your head! AFTER you get the new ride, take a sawzall to that pig and run it as a Roadmaster roadster!!! COOLESTPIMP/KIDEVER! DL
Metal plates do not have the same effect as wood. BTW-thanks for the drunk 3 way call last night that I had to listen to for 2 minutes so I could delete it........jackies....
I don't...and I'd think twice about clicking it if I were you...... DL Image Unavailable, Please Login
Norton didn't complain, but removed it just the same. Thanks for the heads up... P.S. Norton does catch it when saving the image. Reported problem to the link's webmaster FWIW. Sorry about that...
