I've been researching, I'm about 95% sure I'm going to bite the bullet on an '07 QP Sport GT and I was so convinced that I was going to go with an Automatic based on what I've read about clutch life and F1 pump, but shoot, I have found a beautiful Black Beauty with the F1 tranny in it. Should I run?

No, FLOOR IT. Get an auto, the F1 should never have been put in that car.

Pretty much avoid the F1 all together then. Automatic is the only way huh?

    Fudge.

    Thank you for the feedback.

It really depends on how you intend to use the car. There are definitely higher costs involved with the F1, so think about if you will get your money's worth. If you plan to use it as a daily driver, especially in traffic, and have a different toy for the weekends and spirited driving through the mountains of GA (oh, how I miss them!), then the auto is the prudent choice. While Joe has a point about the F1 in a sedan, it certainly isn't the first time the QP has been outfitted with a manual transmission. It's a Maserati, after all.

What TBigs said above. If you don't intend to drive in traffic on use it as a daily driver, then its ok, but otherwise we suggsest you get an Automatic.

The 09 I just bought has the ZF 6speed auto box with paddles it works quite well, but it won't let you hold the gear it will upshift/downshift at it's limits.

that is a better option, than getting a call at 02:00am from your wife or child, asking for help, while being stranded in a lonely motorway, far far away from civilization, just because the F1 clutch decided to kick the bucket right there and then.

and when (or if) you get them safely back, I don't think they'll be sympathetic with your explanation about how much sportier is the F1 gearbox over the Automatic....

    :D

Thanks for all the information. I plan on using the car on a fairly regular basis. As much as I think that the F1 would be the best compromise of performance and spirted driving, from a longevity perspective, the Auto sounds like it really is the best option for me right now.

I know my wife will want to drive the car and a traditional slush box that has built in logic for self preservation is probably the best bet for me.

Too bad it isn't available in a true 3 pedal 6 Speed as that would be my ultimate!

I used to have a 1997 BMW 540i with a 6 Speed Manual. That was the perfect car. You could drive another couple around in complete comfort, and when they got out, you could drive it like stink!

    Thanks again for the feedback.
