i smell a rat..perhaps a 12 yo rat???
I did not hear about the F-430 until few months ago and geez you have been on the waiting list for it for 2 years ? I mean before that it was all rumors so is that possible or am i missing something here ? May be i should go ahead and place an order for next model year i,e F-460,hehe Yasir
you can get a stick shift in any car in the world. but the only way you can experience ferrari's fantastic F1 gearbox is in a ferrari. IMHO you will be missing the boat if you order the old technology in your brand new F430.
No one is disputing the advanced/sophiscated Ferrari F1 system, especially in a Stradale. If you track the car, you will definitely be faster EVEN IF you are Schumi himself. But for daily driving on the street, lots of Ferrari owners still prefer rowing through the gated shift themselves. I know you will be faster, I know you will look 10x better driver than I do with your fast shift and rev matching, but for me it is more fun to shift myself.
I know a guy who has a 1945 Jeep Willis powered by a thermal cycle engine. The future is hybrid. Cancel your order and buy a Prius. Look around, paddle shifting is a commodity. All this F1-box proselitism is cute.
If the F1 zealots are right, 6-speeds will go the way of the dinosaurs any day now. Enjoy the challenge of mastering the gated shifter while you still can!
Come on guys, you know any dealer who has had a 430 waiting list for two years. He has no information in his profile and call us names when we ask a simple question, like what are you driving now, or what dealer are you working with. I'm all for giving a guy a fair chance but not if he will not even answer a question.
yes, i agree. but my point is why not buy a viper, corvette, etc. and use it to master manual shifting? if you could experience ferrari's F1 gearbox in any car then maybe it would not be such a big deal. but you can't so IMHO it is a mistake to waste the opportunity by choosing a manual gearbox in a new F430.
My dealer wants over MSRP to place an order for the F430? $20K over MSRP with other restrictions like can't sell it in for 1 year, they have right to buy it back, etc... Can the forum share their experiences with me on these dealer practices for the F430 and the prices? Thanks...
Just my thoughts. I really like the F1. Much faster shifts. When you get use to it, which only takes about a half hour, it does feel great, feels right, but I think I would rather have a gated shifter. More involvement and I just like to shift. I recently drove the Maserati Cambiocosa and the paddle shifting was really fun. Enjoyed it. Shifts are much faster and much easier to keep the tach at the redline while shifting. Still would rather have a 6 speed.
Actually if you're willing to wait your turn for a new car that you personally order/spec, you MUST get it for MSRP. However, if they are selling a car that someone else ordered, even with "delivery miles", then it's free market.
The dealer is teling me this a car I would order and still have to pay the $20K markup. Then on top of that, they say I can not sell it, ship it out of state and they have the right to buy it back for the 1 year after I buy it. IS THERE ANY DEALER NOW I CAN PLACE AN ORDER FOR A F430 TO MY SPECS AND WAIT IN LINE AND PAY MSRP? Please advise, I am ready to order one now.
I've always been told Ferrari dealers are prohibited from marking up from MSRP. Of course some dealers play the game where they have cars that were "sold" and the prospective owner changed his mind, so that becomes a used car, but for a straight-up purchase, I thought MSRP was it. Also, I believe Ferrari dealers will only deal with customers in their zone, no poaching in other areas, so living in the SF Bay Area, I can't go to LA to buy a car, I have to deal with FoSF. Gary
Appreciate the info, this is a local dealer that is telling me this is the ONLY way I can buy a new F430. I have to pay over MSRP and have all these other restrictions. Has anyone else had this isue with their local Ferrari dealers? ALL I WANT TO DO IS BUY A FERRARI AT MSRP, IF I HAVE TO WAIT OK, I WILL GET ON "THE LIST", I FEEL I AM BEING EXTORTED. Thank you all for any help you can advise me on.
I'd be tempted to contact Ferrari of North America, who may have some interest in your experiences with this dealer. Gary
this subject has always been "fuzzy". you have a golden opportunity to become an expert on this topic and then clue the rest of us in on the facts. i suggest you start by calling David de'Liguori Carino (manager sales operations) at FNA. his number is 201-816-2626 good luck.
Ferrari and Magnetti Marelli combined invented it and own all the patents. They have sold the rights to some and have many others interested. They are hoping that eventually it will replace the full on automatic transmission. Are they the leaders ? Many say that the BMW version works better. I agree with what has been expressed by others here, in a Ferrari get the F1, if you want a stick you can get that in a lot of other cool cars.
