I agree, welcome...I personally enjoyed the orignal post. I believe the OP is just showing his appreciation for what life has given him. We should be happy for the gentleman and not assume he is bragging. I see it as an introduction, he is stating his passions, and the one we all have in common...Ferrari. He also wrenches on his own.....many here don't.

Am I less happy as I have an "ultimate purchase" of a 28 year old Ferrari? I'd rather it be a 50 or 60 year old Ferrari...but I'm ecstatic to own any car as I appreciate everything the good Lord has helped me achieve.

A saying I have never forgotten:

"I cried because I had no shoes , until I met a man with no feet".

There will always be many more fortunate than us, but many, many more less fortunate. We are indeed a lucky group that can enjoy these "toys" that can sit in a garge and be used at our leisure. Lucky enough to wake up tomorrow and flip a coin to decide which car to take. We are a group that doesn't have to worry about our next meal for our family or bus fare to get to work and back. We are alive and hopefully healthy enough to enjoy another day in the sun this side of the grass.

    As Pharrell says...

Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
    Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
    Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
    Because I’m happy

I hate the term "Lucky". "Luck" only matters in whom you're born to.

"Luck" is winning the lottery or walking down the street and someone hands you a million dollars cash. That's what dumb luck is.

Work, determination and the stubbornness not to quit... that's why I have a red car in my garage. I respect the message. I really do.. because he's not the only one who's lost a parent at a young age, nor had any money for food at one time or another. I personally don't make it a point to impress that on others, or mention my sweethearts dimensions. Forums can be hard to express ourselves, we miss the body tone and so much else as things are written.

You have a great car and a lovely wife; I'm glad you are doing so well.

You may consider springing $15 for a silver subscription. There is a thread up there currently about having been poor, I think you would enjoy it.

    Jury's out on this one.
All i would say is anybody who judges somebody elses success in life by the sticker price of their car, whether they were born rich or poor, is a tool.
I'm not saying don't judge somebody by what they drive, just not by the price or age of it !

I respectfully disagree....Judge someone for how they treat other human beings, nature, mother earth, and its habitants (insects, animals, pets, etc)....period.

Guys I have no idea how this got so out of control. All I meant to say is for me..just for me speaking about myself. I feel like I really appreciate my car more and the driving experience is more exciting for because of where I came from. Thats it. Not better than anyone elses but at least equal. When I'm polishing the horse on the back I'm thinking wow...I cant believe I have a car like this. I mentioned my wife jokingly because in the middle of the conversation she comes down and in her crazy Ukrainian accent says I'm taking the dog for a walk because I think my butt is getting bigger...I'm rolling my eyes at her thinking your ridiculous. I think any guy would relate and think thats funny. I have no idea what magic happens to her butt when she walks our 10 week old Lab..she believes in it.
I also feel blessed when I spend time with her and when we take the 355 out its a double dose of wow for me. thats it lets end this squabbling ... and a special thanks to everyone that understood and had cool things to say. Thats it I'm done

I didn't know my use of the word "lucky" would be disected....

The OP is also stating hard work. That is why he has a red car. Yes, we all get the preparation/opportunity thing. Also understand hard work, determination, education etc.

Sorry doc, I believe in a little luck. Luck has a role in life, don't kid yourself. Good luck and bad. Eating well and exercising doesn't guarantee any of us we will wake up in the morning. Doesn't guarantee we won't need a bypass. Hitting baseballs and running drills all day does not make us a Yankee shortstop. If we could do something about an event, it wouldn't be called luck now would it? It is something we can't control....ship happens.

A freind was recently given a $1.5 million tear down house in Manhattan Beach by the next door neighbor they barely knew, that passed away. No heirs. Luck or hard work?

    Ask Kimi about luck......

Monaco GP--- Kimi Raikkonen: “An unlucky race” .
“This was a very unlucky day for me, a real shame after getting a good start and managing to move up to third place. -

"I am sorry I still haven’t managed to get a good result because we are working very hard. We know there is a lot to do as our rivals are still a long way ahead, but I am sure that if we continue down this path the results will come, maybe with a bit more luck.” -

    Raikkonen bemoans bad luck

This is the way it should be. As someone who has been to a third world country and seen REAL poverty (I'm talking about women tearing up dead cow's stomach in someone elses garbage just trying to find something they could cook for their children!), I am forever grateful for even the smallest things that others take for granted.

I thought it was pretty straightforward and easy to understand.
And I agree; those who start at the bottom appreciate the top more. Pretty simple.

Lots of people looking for an excuse to get their panties in a wad.

    No kidding.
No offense to some who think they are "poor" but very very few Americans know what Poor means. One of the problems Moochelle is fighting among the "poor" is obesity. That ain't poor.

Travel the world and not just the 5 star hotels in big cities.

So true...I lived a Thai fighters camp for most of 5 years. I had a POS 110 cc kick start scooter and sometimes two of us shared a mattress. No aircon just a fan and a T.V. with old rabbit ears. Best time of my life. We ate together everyone was just happy. My best friend and training partner Robert the Terminator (guy is a one man wrecking crew) we went to his home in issan for a week. WE had to go kill chickens at dinner. Ate ant eggs for breakfast..Heres a pic of us all together at one of my fights. My son was visiting... the guy next to his right, fastest guy in the world at that time unstoppable at aprox 135lbs.
Pick below is my brother Robert.. My life is really blessed to have such experiences ..

The poor in the US have flat screens, 2 cars, A/C, I-phones and EBT cards. I lived in the Philippines for 5 years and saw real poverty. Saw a family beat to death a dog tied to a pole for food. I will never forget it. In Mexico the poor have tin roofs, in the PI, they have cardboard boxes and banana leaves.

Again, we should all be thankful that we are so blessed (and lucky) to be where we are and who we are.

BTW---the Monty Python skit was too funny.

Clearly those are far more important, i was just admitting to a human frailty!
That we all can be judgemental about others based on superficial evidence.

My main point was in response to some snide remarks above about the value of the Op's 355.
The implication being that although he thinks he has made it, he has not really because his Ferrari is not going to be the most expensive on the Cavellino lawn.

The Op's is clearly delighted with his 355 and 355's are clearly delightful things.
So he has made it, clearly.

    Clear ? ;)

I'm really starting to feel like the new way of dick measuring is telling how poor you where before.

As said elsewhere in this thread ''I cried that I didn't have shoes, until I saw someone with no feet''.

It's just about every sports person, millionaire or celebrity these days have to make a whole story about how poor they where, that they only had 2 pair of shoes and hand me downs from older brother. Boohoo. Like others said, spent some real time in a proper 3rd world country and you'll be happy you where born in a country that gives you half a chance at survival.

It's not specifically to the OP this, but it's a rant in general.
