I am tying myself up in knots over a choice between the 550/575m or the c6 zo6. I will always keep my 355's but I really need another GT car. The f car is just sooooo intoxicatingly beautiful, sophisticated and has supercar type performance but the vette is undeniably over the top type performance and I wouldn't worry about parking it anywhere and taking it on long road trips. The f car is so understated though I wouldn't have a problem parking it either. Though the reliability and service requirements aren't as much of an issue with the vette but I do the general maintenance myself anyway.... F**K, Help me!

Ferrari. It will likely hold its value better as well. (550s are near the bottom of their dep cycle)

    Really, a 575 vs. a Vette? I would rather have a 328 over any vette (PS - I worked at GM Engineering 11 years and have an engineering company in Michigan for 19 years, so my view is tainted). Unless you get some classic piece of art vette, they are otherwise a dime a dozen. A more interesting car which is built on the vette platform using the vette components base is the Cadillac XLR-V (which they are not making anymore). Heres a link to one;

I'm not worried about depreciation as I am about looks, feel, performance and experience. I had an 2010 vette in Florida for a week (paddle shift) and I had a ball. I would prefer the 575 over the 550 but the 550 is still in the running because it is just so classic and raw. I know a couple of the guys here have both or have owned both. What does long term 55o/575 ownership look like. Although worth it I don't want to be as intense with the service as the 355's require with this purchase.

If you have to ask, you should get the Z06.

To my mind, there is no comparison. There are far better ways to make power and cheaper ways to exceed your driving ability.

You either want to be entranced by the Ferrari V12 swan song, wrapped up in a real sporty, grand touring interior and have the prestige of owning a Ferrari... or you just want to go fast.

    So, which is it?

It depends on how much you drive. If you really want another car to drive more as a daily car... a car you don't have to worry about where you park it etc... and racking up miles and 7k dollar services... the choice is easy... the Z06.

I love my Z06. its a great car and I loathe american cars. The seats are ehh... as is the interior... but when I go to grab a 1-2 or 2-3 shift... im scared... this thing is an animal. You will be sideways in a milliesecond. I love that. I have to respect it because it might hurt me... not the other way around.

I would never drive a 550 or 575 the way I drive my Z06. I would never take those cars where I take my Z06.

That and the fact that the trunk is MASSIVE in the Z06 and the A/C is KILLER makes it an easy purchase with no regrets.

However, I wish I had a 550/575. That will be the next F-car. I throughly enjoy my 355... but the next car without a doubt is a 550/575.

    Vette's are Vette's --and Ferrari's are special.

The Vette may be faster, more reliable, easier and cheaper to work on, etc --but it just doesn't have the emotion or impact of a Ferrari.

If you want practical, go with a Vette or Porsche. Nothing wrong with that. But, if you want emotion, there is no substitute for the prancing horse.

People always reference depreciation as a factor, stating that the Ferrari will hold its value better.... but the Vette won't cost you anywhere near as much to maintain. So in the end, at least in these models, it would about even out either way.

If there's any question in your mind, buy the vette.

It's apples and oranges in my mind.

Like do you ask out the prom queen or the frat pig. If you want the pig, go for it, it's an easy score, and you may not be ready for the prom queen just yet. :D

If you want to track it get the Z, if you just want to drive it get the F

The 550/575 is a gorgeous car and nice & cheap too now but maintenance will always be $$$

The Z is also a gorgeous car although the interior is crap but that can be fixed. Maintenance is ridiculously cheap vs F. A 06 or 07 is nicely depreciated and there are a million ways to personalize it

    Indeed.

If you're going to realize the performance difference on open public roads you shouldn't be allowed either.

Man this is getting even harder. As stated the f car IS special we all know that, also it is IMO the perfect GT car within my grasp that ferrari produced. The vette however IS just a vette but Once lowered and outfitted to my liking, it is a pretty sweet car, yes they are a dime a dozen and I've done the Porsche thing but can anyone define their specific "je ne say quoia" about either car? Right now I remain balanced in the center of this very tough decision.
I will be purchasing one or the other over the winter, and I really don't want to regret my final purchase.

I have a 355 and like you I am in the market for a 550(I am keeping the 355). I have nothing against vetts and the newer ones are great performers but they just don't do anything for me. They just don't have any soul IMO. But good luck with whatever you buy.

I'm biased but I recommend you buy the Ferrari 550 over the C6 Corvette.

It's a lot easier to get total strangers to sit and pose for a picture in a 550. ;)

I love the 550/575 more than the C6Z/C5Z, or any Corvette really.

But I don't plan to own either, for my own reasons.

You need to figure this out for yourself, it's your money.

The difference sitting in them, moving your hand over the leather, just sitting there idling, or actually driving them, well if you can't decide for yourself maybe you shouldn't get either. No offense.

Best idea is to get 1 of each :)

you can find an 06 Z for near $40k US

and a early 550 for maybe $70k or so

Not at all and plenty on F-chat can vouch for me in that regard. I CAN be sizable dou**e if I apply myself. :D

I'm only saying what I think you need to hear. Both are fantastic machines, but one will get you more "fired up" than the other one, if only slightly.

Darth550, mike550, and mw575 have showed me in person what the 550/575 are capable of. I've driven and been around enough C5Z and C6's to understand what the C6Z is all about.

The V12 is intoxicating especially matched up with a Bassani and Tubi, it's hand built, and you don't see them on the road daily in lesser forms. The C6Z is newer, has that extra straight line grunt in the form of an extra 75hp/100tq at the wheels down low in the power band, and up-to-date driving aids.

In the end what I'm trying to say is some people are personified by their cars, a saying I picked up from F-chat.

If one of these were an extension of you, and you could only have one, the winner is. . .
