Just got one on trade.......a 2000 model year Turbo Quattro coupe with a 5 speed......so I drove it this weekend. Damn I like this car.......a little underpowered , but not unsafe with the early 180 HP engine, however a little tuning (ECU, bigger turbo, better exhaust) should easily rectify that. I got 2 weeks worth of groceries in the trunk under the hatch......and some pretty good gas mileage under really hard driving. The thing feels good, corners well, looks great and with AWD makes it the perfect 4 season daily driver. Geez.....who woulda thought. The wife likes it too. Anyone else here like these things ?
My girlfriend drives one. Solid car, but built for people 5'6" or under it seems. I can't contort myself to easily reach the seatbelt no matter what I do, my head is almost in the ceiling and i have to slam the seat all the way back as far as it can go. Plus I hate the blind spots to the rear. Still, hers is the 225hp model, it has decent power, handles well etc.
I had an 00 Quatrro coupe for about 2 years. I loved the car, though it isn't the most reliable car ever produced. There are plenty of options if you want more power, better handling or whatever. I loved the attention it got (especially from the ladies). To the person that said their head was nearly hitting the roof, you probably just need to lower the seat, it took me a few days to figure out how to do it. I am 6 foot and had plenty of room.
I'm a 5'4" shortass and once sat in the back of a TT. I had to sit with my legs splayed around the backrest of the front seat and my head tilted almost as far as it would go to one side. Not an enjoyable experience...
I have an '08 -- new coupe, bought in August. Great car, bigger than your 2000 model. 200bhp 2.0T engine. Back seat designed by the Gestapo, but massive luggage space; DSG tranny is brilliant; interior rivals exotics in terms of quality. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Only one I've got right now... kinda washed out in the sun, but it's beige. All the shiny metal-looking stuff is actually: metal (aluminum). Image Unavailable, Please Login
Driven a couple...Was going to buy one, but I got my TT A6 instead(Twin Turbo ) Drove a 180hp that was smooth as silk and wanted it so bad, but was a thousand or 2 more then I wanted to spend. People always say the TT is sorta a pig compared to the likes of Boxsters and S2000's etc(and maybe it is), but I found it to handle awesome! It had such great weighted steering and suspension! Although I drove a 225hp model that felt like it had been rallied across the country and had dog hair in every single nook....The dealer tried to give it to me but couldn't! I must say...I like the interior of the UrTT better then the new TT.....You can tell they tailored it to feedback from the masses. So yes...I like the TT BTW....I'm 6'2" and heavy....fits like a glove
a few pics of my old car..I sure do miss it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Devilsolsi, why does that passenger seat look so worn for 59k? It looks like a seat from a car with another 100k on the odometer. Do the seats wear out that fast? I have been looking at early TTs, also. I have found quite a few 180hp Qs under 12k and even a 225Q or two with higher miles. I need to replace my car with something that I can drive in the snow.
It is just the pic..I think it is just the way the light was hitting the seat, because if you look at the drivers seat in that pic, it looks a whole lot better. I think that picture was taken a little bit later too. I sold the car with about 90K on it. You will have to worry about the side bolsters on the seats wearing, since you tend to lean on it to get out due to the low roof line.
Leather usually looks looks worse when you photograph, it depending up on lighting conditions...............
I was thinking about buying a used TT but was wondering whats the average most miles its safe to put on the TT without having to deal with major maintenance for the car? I drove one and loved it and used ones are priced in the 17-24k range. Could be a great California car when i move up there.
Timing belts are due at 180KM (120K miles) on the turbo and plugs are due at every 78KM (48K miles)........that's pretty much all I am aware of other than regular maintenance you'd expect. I am looking at this cars maintenance handbook as I type.
Electronics are a big issue. A lot of people have issues with the guage clusters and fuel level sending units. For some reason my date would reset sometimes back to 1998 (before the car was even made!). I never had to replace the fuel level sending units or the cluster, but a lot did. I did have to replace the fuel pump, and I had a lot of suspension related issues. I think that may have been due to the accident I was in. It is a great car, but get a good warranty.
If i were to get one at this moment, it would be pretty similar to this one here in San Antonio. http://autos.yahoo.com/usedcars/detail/index.html?cid=automobiles-231332885&dst=7.81&rsr=Yj0mYW1wO2NlX3NsPSZhbXA7bWFrZT1BVURJJmFtcDttb2RlbD1UVCZhbXA7Y2xfeT0mYW1wO2NoX3k9JmFtcDtjbF9wcmljZT0mYW1wO2NoX3ByaWNlPSZhbXA7Y2xfbWk9JmFtcDtjaF9taT0mYW1wO2NrPSZhbXA7Z3VyPTUwJmFtcDtjc3o9NzgyMzcmYW1wO3Z0eXBlPWF1dG9zJmFtcDttaz1BdWRpJmFtcDttbz1UVA--
