    Mates,

I am looking for a certain gearbox/differential oil. It is called Castrol Syntrax 75W-90.

Apparently this Castrol product is not available in the US (I am in New York). I see that it is available in only a few countries.

I was wondering if any of you, my F-Chat friends, in New Zealand or Australia could tell me how much your local auto parts store is charging for a container of this product.

    Castrol New Zealand:

    Castrol Australia:

    Thanks to all...

    Thanks Phil.

Now is this Multitrax gear oil recommended for limited-slip differentials? I'm a bit confused as to when additives are necessary.

Can you help me understand the difference between the Syntrax and the Multitrax?

    Here are the spec sheets:

The syntrax specifically excludes the use in LSD's, but I'm surprised by that and didn't know it until I read the spec sheet.

Lucky I like the Multitrax anyway....... As it's also for many other cars that have LSD's

I have had so many problems with Shell for both engine and gearbox, that I simply no longer consider it an option.

    goobs, you're a sad indivegetable :)

they're trying to have a good techo discussion and you're on the drugs tracks again...need a trip to Bali ??

On topic, I've always used the Agip oils as recommended by the manuals, or have we moved on ?

Also, I've used the Shell products over an extended period and found no issues other than some engines aren't good enough to warrant the extra expense of the good synthetics.

What specific problems have you found with the Shell product Phil ?

Conrods flying out the side of 360's, and pinions falling to bits....

other than that they're great... oh apart from the oil pressure dropping to zero when ambient is high, and the gearbox turning to foam, and the... oh, I'll stop there... that should cover it....

and John, my deportation certificate prohibits me from going to indonesia, so Bali is not on the agenda, but they have good magic mushrooms!!!!!
