I just built a car/camera rig on Friday. Its 2 suction cups with 12 feet of aluminum piping coming off of it with a tripod head at the end. Attach the camera and dial in your settings and you get some sweet pics :) The suction cups do ZERO harm to the car. Leaves a lil mark/outline of dust type thing that just wipes off.

Not the best shot but kinda shows what it looks like on the car. Can't wait to play with it more once the weather breaks!

lol. generally you'd do this on a private road... closed road... parking garage... ect.

darolls- point was for people who are looking to get pics of their cars like this. i talked with some people on here about a set up like this and everyone seemed pretty interested.

Really cool! Nice job! I am also attempting to build a rig, with help from a friend in Florida. It's prety difficult to get the balance right, what are you using as a base platform to put on the car? My biggest issue with the rig is on the front towards the camera is too heavy and it just flings the platform off the car. I'd like to start over but with finals and all, I might not get to it for a few weeks. Yours looks really solid!

I've often thought about hooking a camera to my vehicle for on-road shots of other cars taken from otherwise impossible angles. On several occasions, I have mounted still and video cameras to bicycles and motorcycles - or their drivers. (Once I mounted a motordrive camera to a motocross racer's chest protector - I got a lot of shots of his gas tank or the sky.) The equipment always vibrated to some extent, and needed frequent checks and safeties.

As a professional photographer, part of my business insurance covers on-location use of my cameras and computers, as well as any damages that occur when I am working on-location (outside my studio or office). I specifically asked for liability coverage for any damage incurred in any shoot, and used the example of dropping my camera 40 feet onto a Ferrari. (>>my stomach turns<<) I was told I need an "Inland Marine" rider coverage, so that's what I got.

I bought my current Nikon used from a fellow FChatter. He also has a Ferrari and he took an insane shot of himself driving the car with the camera: He mounted the camera somehow on the very forward tip of the hood, looking back and remotely triggered it while going fast. The result is an awesome shot of the hood, windshield, him and the trees behind him flying by. Apparently there was no incident as the camera works just fine. :)

andreas- Chances are he wasn't going fast at all, just used the same technique as I used for the shots above, or the shots below. Its just a long shutter speed which blurs everything that is in movement and keeps what ever is not moving in focus (the car).

mobius- i see what your talking about with the vibrations for the stuff your talking about. this is a completely different set up though. while you are trying to get shots of cars in actual motion doing normal speeds this car below is being pushed from behind at around .5 mph with the car off. This causes very little vibration since not a lot is going on except the bumps on the road. Video and such is much different because you can't fake a car doing 55mph on video like you can photo. What i've found best for my videos is a glidecam attached to the camera. you can literally run full speed with this thing in your hands and as long as you have it balanced properly the camera will stay perfectly still.

Check this link for the pics that I took the other night with this rig. I'm pretty happy with them :D

haha, thank you! I'll try and come to a couple drives this year. Depends on how busy everything else is. For people that'd like to set up some shots like this they can PM me and we can work out some details. Rig shots of Ferrari's (or exotics in general) FTW!
