...nothing else to say. That's it. I'm just so incredibly happy we no longer have to deal with tape delayed broadcasts and massive commercials. They ruined now two Sundays in a row for me.

+1 Yes. Whilst Massa was busting his @ss trying to move through the field, we watched a tape of some third rate team's carbon fiber fire extinguisher. Give me a break.

You would have seen the same on Speed. It's the same broadcast/production team. Aside from the tape delay and Fox's STUPID promo overlays, there would have been no change.

    True.

I do like the RPM (Racing per Matchett), but for the life of me I don't understand why that has to be showed DURING the race. There is NOTHING that is more important than live (or as in Fox' case delayed) action shots from the track. Show RPM in the build up to the race or after the interviews, but by gholly not during the race. Arrrgh!

OK, but I least I can have live timing so while they go off the reservation I can still tell what's going on in the RACE.

Also, FOX kept running ads for baseball that took up half the screen. Guess with my Alzheimer's I forgot that speed did that.

the positive thing about tape delay (there is usually SOMETHING positive) is that I can sleep in and then fast forward through all the commercials and other junk so all is not lost.

Bottom line: More exciting to watch F1 racing live.

Don't know why they can't broadcat live on Speed and replay on tape delay for the masses at a later time. It's not like Speed is running any other live programs before dawn anyway.

If they did that, the .0014% of Americans who watch F1 wouldn't wait to see it on Fox, and thus the ratings would be more dismal than they are now.

The US ratings aren't actually all that bad. Percentagewise compared to the population yes, but not in absolute numbers compared to overall ratings.

Those lousey commercials really stunk. And it was always the same set over and over and over.. I made a new pledge this weekend. I will never purchase any of the products that are advertised during the race on Fox. Maybe a nation wide movement can be started. Please send it back to SpeedTV so we can really enjoy the race.

    I am having mixed thoughts.

+ This year's Fox coverage is a lot better thanks to Speed commentary team being in charge (read no screaming Shaheen and v little of Daly)
    - No time for pre-race build-up
    - Abrupt cuts from interviews
+ The high def coverage is quite nice - it isn't true high def but it looks great on my widescreen TV.

Ideally we should have parallel coverage on Speed and Fox High Def. Watch the bits before and after the race on Speed and the race itself on Fox

While no big fan of the FOX coverage, I have a couple of semi-contra points:

    1) I thought the coverage was somewhat better this time than their last one. With some reservations to be noted later.

    2) I am still mad at SPEED for Nascar worship, really really stupid pinks and rodbuilding programs, and other nonsense. I really expected much better when I ordered this on top of my basic cable.

Having said something kind of good about FOX, still - am I the only one that thought they could still barely take the camera off Lewis and his dad all week end, even on the podium set? And relating that story about somebody "measuring the McClaren car in the trailer" as if this new scandal were nothing at all, plus quoting the Dennis line time and again was pukadacious.

Can the FOX commentators actually choose what is broadcast? It seems as though they are stuck on the international feed, and have no choice in the matter.

In an attempt to watch the race live, I was looking for a live internet broadcast. I did find www.zattoo.com, which had the race feed from RTL or Swiss TV, but they don't serve the US.

Does anybody know of a similar internet provider? I'm trying to get prepared now, because I'm sure Fox will tape delay the races next year again.

Personally, I liked the Fox coverage. I can understand why they need a little more revenue from the "big" network and would gladly trade that for the semi-HD feed that we got.

However; I do agree - a full pre-race and post-race on Speed would be great!

Tape delay doesn't bother me much, I Tivo it and watch it in the evening anyway..

Tape delay is my biggest gripe: Half the fun for me is to talk about the race afterwards here on FChat. But I can't come here if I haven't seen the race yet and once I'm done watching the tape delay, the discussions have already reached page 5 of the thread at which point I have no more interest in reading through all that etc.

I'd rather see it on Fox just for the quality of the picture if nothing else. Why doesn't Speed broadcast in HD?

    LOL

However this is barely an exaggeration: The worst was the entire right half of the screen covered with some program preview.

If you compare Fox' horrendous ads with how for instance the World Cup was covered in the US: No commercials and only a tiny logo sticker up in the corner for the whole duration, barely an imposition on the viewers. It can be done.

Yes I use TVU or Sopcast.
They broadcast Starsports which has ITV, and Wheels which has SPEED.

I couldn't be happier that Fox did the broadcasts because I don't have Speed. I think that part of the reason F1 isn't popular in America is that you have to order Speed to be able to watch any of the races. As far as I'm concerned, this mass exposure from Fox can only help others become fans of F1 racing. All I had to do was set the Tivo and watch it after church.

+1 Watching it on Fox was better than not watching it at all. I also agree that maybe it can lead to more fans.

The TV quotas for races shown in the US on Speed vs on Fox do not necessarily support that theory.
