Can anyone think of one good damned reason why the replay of the Spanish GP is tonight at Midnight? Will it interrupt a Nascar driver farting if it's on at a normal hour? Heaven forbid Nascar drivers playing poker get pre-emted. Ever since Fox bought Speed it's been ghetting more and more Nascar based and I, for one, am getting sick of it. I know it's a replay and we all know who won, but i missed the race and wanted to catch the replay. I work midnights so now i can't. My VCR is at my old place so i can't even tape it right now. This is bull****, speed should scale back so much damned Nascar stuff and give other motorsports thier due coverage. I hope thier TV deal runs out soon. I think it's time to write some letters, i encourage anyone else who feels the same way to do so as well.

Funny you started this - I was thinking exactly the same thing. I wrote a quick note to Speed this morning telling them they are a motorsports channel, already have too much Nascar, and they need to drop that frickin POKER rubbish. Not that it will do a bloody bit of good, but if we all do it, perhaps someone would notice:

    http://www.speedtv.com/feedback/

POKER! What the hell are they thinking!?

I guess some people can't get enough of NASCAR. Nascar Poker was a nice touch, yeah right. Here's some more shoe ideas to completely ruin Speed TV.

    Good morning NASCAR
    All my NASCAR
    Cooking with NASCAR
    Teenage Mutant Ninja NASCAR
    NASCAR Cops
    Calling Dr. NASCAR
    NASCAR 90210

    etc...

I wanted to write to say I totally agree with your assessment of this
year's coverage of F1 by Speed. It is disappointing to see this
channel obviously "kow-tow" to a product that is inferior to
Grand Prix racing. I, for one, am not endorsing the idea that NASCAR is
exclusively followed by brain-dead red-necks. But a few more tape-delays
of Formula 1 races and I just might "sign on" to this notion, if only in a bit of a pique.
Finally, though Bob Varsha, David Hobbs, and Steve Matchett do a job
that is nothing short of fantastic when covering the qualifying and
racing, I have wondered often whether the three of them actually are
not at the specific venue but sitting in a studio somewhere doing their
commentating. Only Peter Windsor is palpably present at the circuits,
and his work is exceptional, too.

I wrote to them. I told them that there is a growing legion of unhappy F1 fans and, while we understand the priority of Nascar, don't appreciate such programming decisions as prime-time poker over an actual grand prix. I suggested that they're trying too hard to be all things to all race fans, and maybe it's high time they branch out with STV2--one for Nascar, and one for racing.

Just a second Guys. I know that Speed has become more NASCAR since FOX
bought them. Before ESPN there was ABC and all that was coverd was Monaco, JUST the race. Then ESPN (owned by ABC, I think) covered all the F1 races not necessarly LIVE. I had a C band dish and I would watch the LIVE feed in the language of the country orrgin, then I would watch ESPN's LIVE telecast, their choice of listing as opposed SD. BUT all I got was the RACE! Then Speedvision came along and gave us PRACTICE and QUALIFYING. At least SPEED conrtinued what Speedvision started. I don't what it costs to televise an F! event but we are getting more than we were. Did CBS show practice, NO! Did CBS show Qualifying, NO! We are in the minorty and I don't believe it is going to get any better. Also I would like to pont out thet SPEED added DECADE and INSIDE.
Here in the Heartland we have Heartland Park with a wonderfull road course,
I road on my ZX-10, and a DRAGSTRIP. We had about 3 good years of road
raceing until the developers stopped throwing good money after bad.
The DRAGS give JOE AVERAGE want he wants. Their LOUD, SHAKE the EARTH
and it is over in a matter of seconds. They bulit an OVAL near KC and NASCAR
CARS and TRUCKS plus the IRL fills the stands equal or greater than the DRAGS.
So enjoy the view, from the top of the pyramid!

Awesome idea !! Would never make it in the American market but Canada and overseas would eat it up. Wonder why Bernie hasn't launched one and raked in the royalties yet ? He had Bernievision but I think the cost of membership was a tad too high to make it profitable. I could be wrong here though.

I was told that because of the deal that CBS worked out for these events, Speedchannel is not allowed to show the F1 race during prime time, including weekend days.

Think about it, the fact that Speed pays for the privilege to air F1 live, tells you they realize that there is a substantial audience. Logical that this audience would rather watch this replay at a reasonable time than at midnight on a weekend. So they would run it earlier if they could.

At least they are running it. For me, better than not at all because I refuse to watch the race on CBS. Like I was pleased when ABC finally gave up a one or two delay of Monaco. F1 in not for regual broadcast TV.

You should be pissed at CBS for interfering with what has become a tradition for F1 fans for the last few years, live broadcast of the sport no matter what the time. Write, call CBS, not Speed.

Stephen - you're right, the extra money has provided more coverage of less demographically popular race series. I even enjoy the CBS coverage, although I pick nits with it.

The poker cannot last forever (a trial?), but I hope it's replaced with more programming along the lines of Decade races, or even Reno Air racing. These shows are cheap (already in the can), and you don't have to pay nascar drivers to show up. Financially it has to be better, right?

IMO the Nascar fans are subsidising my veiwing of F1, CBS probably has a non-compete deal when airing their scheduled races. I missed the Imola race on CBS and didnt read a paper, watch Speed, or check the Fchat racing forum for a week. With Dish's version of Tivo my TV watching has become more enjoyable. How did civilization exist before, or was it truly civilization?

NASCAR wouldn't be so bad if they ran more road courses -- like old Riverside, and Sears Point (when they still ran the Carousel). Several years ago I was at Sears Point and I've got to tell you, it was pretty amazing seeing those NASCAR guys pounding through the turns. Not like F-1, but still....

At least you guys can get Speed Channel. My cable service Cable Vision won't carry it. I live at the base of a cliff and can't get satellite except for Arab programs. They just upgraded me to digital cable. So now there's 15 million channels but nooooo Speed. Oh I can get 15 fricken
spanish language religious channels but not this one channel. Here I live 5 miles from NYC and I can't get Speed.

I only get to see it in hotel rooms when I travel. I agree about the format. When it was sold years ago the interesting oddities dissaperared overnight. I kind of liked the massive diesel truck races from Europe and the stuff about fast boats. You have to include Nascar just like you have to include F1 but I also like road racing so a nice mix would be great.

Sorry, but I can't comment on the Nascar poker stuff because I haven't seen it. Lucky me. But in that same train of thought how about dogs dressed up in racing suits driving in a Nascar race? The talent pool might improve.

I don't mind the current situation one bit. Last weekend I was visiting my parents, who live in an area where Speed is not available on the local cable. And yet I was able to watch a Grand Prix! Maybe not live, but at least same day and uncut.

I remember the bad old days when there was NO TV coverage in the U.S. whatsoever. If you were lucky there was a one-paragraph writeup in the next day's newspaper; if not you had to wait for AutoWeek or (before I could afford a weekly publication) Road & Track, about 3 months later! That's right, there were some G.P.s back in the 60s and early 70s where I would not find out who won until three months later!

So, as they say where I came from, fuhgeddaboudit! What we have may not be perfect, but it is FAR better than what it was in the past.

Thanks for responding to my message from yesterday to
let me know that the trio are sitting in a studio and
not at the Monza, Silverstone, Magny Cours, Imola,
