    Hi Guys,

You know when you walk into a room and a girl catches you eye and you just can't take your eyes off her?

Well................ that's how I feel about this 1978 GTB.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260186814771&rd=1

I've saved it in My Ebay and keep looking at it. Morning noon and night, can’t help myself, I’m addicted. Can I be saved?????? Is there some medication available?

I tried doing some searches here, as I know that it has had some airtime on this forum but unfortunately I can’t locate the tread. I am really keen to import a car such as this to Australia and use it as a club car or weekend special. I’ve done a fair bit of homework and figure I can land this in my garage with all taxes and shipping costs for about HALF what a RHD car would cost here. It naturally will only ever be worth half but at least it’s a real FERRARI.

LHD Corvettes are selling down here for much the same money, as this would cost me to import.

Everything appeals to me about this car especially price. I know the auction hasn’t ended yet and anything can happen with 1 minute to go but all things being equal what should it sell for? Even the BUY IT NOW price is appealing to me.

Does anybody here know anything about it? I'd love to get some feedback from you guys as to what you think.

    Thanks again........

    Bob.

I think it's a nice example but of course not all original. My guess is as presented it could push 30K. I contacted the seller but no answer in 2 days. I don't see a "buy it now".

I COMPLETELY understand where you're coming from. :D

I did hear from the seller and it does have some rust along the bottoms of the doors and also on the front fenders right behind the wheels. He has one additional picture to offer of the instrument panel, but, nothing else.

It was discussed a bit in this thread, too. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176235

    'Hope this helps a little.

Best of luck to the winner! :)

It sounds nice, and looks decent. But be very careful about buying a car you have not seen in person. If you are serious, ask the seller who did the major service, get copies of the receipts for the work, and contact the mechanic that worked on it to verify the condition of the car. Also, consider the cost of shipping and import duties before you bid on it, and make sure that you are able to arrange to have the car picked up and transported. That is no small feat to accomplish. You might also want to get on the California forum and ask if someone out there can look at it for you. Worth having a second pair of eyes go over it with a fine tooth comb. And ask the seller about the original wheels and whether they are included in the sale. And if you buy it, try to have the seller ship you the manuals and the tools separately via DHL or some other international package carrier to minimize the risk of losing them in transit.

Just a few random suggestions, hope they help.

I seem to recall seeing a few girls once from pictures and thought they were GOOD, but when i eventually met them, they were GOOD.............from far.

    Food for thought !

IIRC, this car had some rust issues. If you pull the trigger on it, make sure you're holding a bazooka and aiming it toward the middle of the car.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback especially Dan for the link I couldn't find.
I can't help but think were talking about a girl we both fancy! LOL

BUY IT NOW has now gone but I think it was $23K.

This is really hard for me as I'd love to go through the process and import a car but when you are 10,000 miles away or there about, it's difficult. To fly over and spend 3 or 4 days in LA is a $3,500 exercise, which nullifies the price advantage.

The import costs etc are OK I’ve done my homework on all of that and a mate of mine just imported a 57 Chevy Coupe so he’s pretty well up to speed to help me. Here in Australia anything 30 years or older can be fully registered LHD so that’s where the appeal lies.

To make matters a bit more restrictive I’ve been told that if I buy from a dealer in the states, the sales tax needs to be added to the purchase price, so once again there is another cost that many (like me from another country) can overlook. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it’s 7.75% in California? Is this refundable if the car is being exported?

RUST…….. The treaded 4 letter word eh!

We have a saying here………. There are no free lunches, if something is cheap, there’s a reason for it. I too have seen many cars that look like glamour’s in pics but end up looking like turds in real life.

Anyway, I’m off to take my medication…….LOL

    Bob.

We pay the 7.75% use tax in San Diego County (it varies slightly around the state) when we register our cars. If you're exporting it, I doubt you would have to pay that if it's delivered out of state (or out of country).

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/ has our many wonderful laws regarding cars, fees, etc., in the People's Republic of California. ;)

By now any of the early cars will have some bubbles.

The rest of the car speaks to being well maintained, IMO..

As I stated in the other thread though, this car is catalyst equipped and is the first year of the milder cams. Food for thought on a Track Use car.

You could always pop $4K for the cams but tampering to a CAT free exhaust system would be illegal here.....

Love the colors though....looks like a loved car to me.

Missing Books/pouch could go as high as $5K also unless you get lucky

You sure? If he bought a CA or AZ car I think it might have a fighting chance. Australia's pretty dry, IIRC.

    Nope.

the Ferrari bug is a virus, not a bacteria. Once you catch it, it's pretty much there for good.

I had a chance to buy a 308gts with a little door rust at 10k less then I paid for my 308gtb. In retrospect it would have been a better car for me, with a less than perfect body I would have driven it more often, parked it anywhere, & enjoyed it a hell of a lot more knowing that someday I'd fix the rust/body/paint. I really like the yellow & the wheels. Buy what thrills you before you're dead or too old to enjoy it.

    just my .02 cents

I can't seem to get a handle on the fluctuation of their prices. It appears that $20,000 - $40,000 is where they are at.
$40K is out of my reach so how much do you guys think a '77 or '78 car with good history, no rust and about 60,000 - 70,000 miles should be worth? I'm hope around $28-$30K?
    Thanks..........

    Bob.

I agree...and I build them daily...I think the paint has migrated to my brain after 18 years of spraying FER300!

Here's my latest [more info in the collectors forum].
