don't like that stuff either. was on teevee recently and found a couple bits funny but was just wincing too much so switched it off. funny, the ubernerds at school 15 years ago thought it was the definition of hilarious and would enact whole scenes if anyone made a fart joke, but run-of-the-mill geniuses like me just didn't get it.
N.D.: I liked it OK but my teenagers loved it enough to buy the DVD. I think Mr. Bean is the most derivative, un-imaginative character I've ever seen. First time I saw him I was on a KLM flight to Tanzania. Could not escape it. The diarrhea in Tanzania was more pleasant. Thumbs way up on most British humour: Monty Python etc.
Throw in some Mel Brooks movies and you have a great comedy collection. "Don't mention the war!" - Basil Fawlty
When the uncle got up and took the steak that the older nephew was eating right off his plate and threw it at ND and smacked him in the side of the head I just lost it. One of the funniest things I have seen in a movie for a long time. But I do have to say I needed to watch it more than once to really catch so stuff. My wife still has not watched it all the way through yet.
Haven't you noticed the trend? Films about people even lamer than the audience (is presumed to be). The past is funny, because it's not like "us". The film version of "Starsky and Hutch" was just a "look how stupid that other generation was" (as opposed to looking at current stupidity). Austin Powers was "they went to the moon, but they danced silly". This is an expanded version of "I'm not all that bad, if everyone else is worse", or "big fish in a tiny little pond". The fine art of metrics manipulation: faster than a brick, more powerful than a kleenex, able to leap tall microchips at a single bound. Marta: "I'm the most beautiful woman on this planet" Garth: "You're the only woman on this planet, you stupid cow." Remember the "Bacos" commericals, with the woman feeling pleased about being smarter than her dog? Hollyweird doesn't make too many films about inspiring characters anymore. They make "feel good" films to make the (mostly adolescent) audience feel "better" than the film's characters. Films about heroic historical figures might make the audience feel like they're not living up to their potential, unless you can find enough ways to "humanize" (e.g. degrade) the historical characters.
There's no plot, it's just funny. If you go into it thinking that you're going to get an amazing story line then you won't enjoy it. It's just supposed to be a goofy movie. Gosssssssh! haha
I've tried to watch this POS like 3 times now and can't make it past the first 20 minutes. And I think Dumb and Dumber is one of the greatest movies of all time. I just don't get it.
I saw it on TV and forced myself to sit through about 20 minutes of it out of curiosity about a month ago. I don't get it either. It might have been funny if I was 7 years old. Maybe hearing every moron I came into contact with using quotes from the movie every 5 seconds from the time of its release until now ruined it for me... but I have a feeling I'd have hated it anyway.
I was disappointed with NDynamite. Its different and odd. I watched it again, and it was better the 2nd time. Truth be told, I didnt care for Pulp Fiction first time i saw it. I fell asleep in the theater (true story). Now, the 40th time later, I still pick up on weird angles and different views when I watch it. Great movie.
I couldn't sit through it, just too damned dull. Maybe i'll get smashed and try it again one day. I love Curb Your Enthusiam and most British humor. Ab fab was great. I dunno i can't find anything funny about ND. I'm having a hard time figuring out why people would love the movie. Oh well, to each thier own.
heh, pulp fiction was exactly what we needed at the time. a mate got 2 free tickets to some movie called Junior, turned out to be an absolute shocker of a movie about arnie having a baby wtf?? after that we were so depressed we had wasted an evening of our youth that we went walking along and saw that a movie called pulp fiction was about to be on. we had no idea what it was about, but i vaguely recalled hearing something about it having something to do with reservoir dogs so we were like "f#&k it, it's gotta be better than that crap we just saw." theatre was packed, and turned out to be best cinema experience ever (with a guy )
I'm one that gets it, I guess. Laughed hysterically throughout the whole thing ... you guys just forgot the crystals.
I'm in agreement with you, but I will have to say this. When I first saw Strange Brew I thought it was dumb, now I love it. Timing is everything.
How can you not get this ? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1185454857396081026&q=napolean+dynamite
It's kind of like Mel Brooks movies. Either History of The World was one of the funniest movies you have ever seen or it was one of the worst.
I watched Old School last night for the first time. Not nearly as funny as people had made it out to be.
