A pack of Kools just lasted me 2 days. Im down from 2 packs a day to 1 pack in 2 days. I'm proud of myself.

I know you don't care but I just wanted to share.

I think I'll start working out again to "quit". Last time I did I lasted 2 years.

Please don't misunderstand me as if I were some sort of party pooper -- I'm not.

I have never known anyone to successfully quit by gradually reducing their cigarettes. I'm sure it has been done, but I just haven't seen it.

I smoked from age 15 til about 19 or 20 years old. I quit cold turkey, and relasped periodically until I got married. I haven't smoked a cigarette (or even taken a puff) since my bachelor party the night before.

Cold Turkey is how I "quit" before. It is by far the easiest AND also the hardest way to go. As soon as I get a membership to a gym and get Miai to run with me then it is cold turkey time. As long as your motivated and have a way to relieve the stress of quitting without eating and gaining weight than you are staright.

I think it's great. I've had a couple relatives die from emphysema, including my father. I've never been a smoker, but I have no problem being around other people and friends who smoke, especially in bars. Do what's best for yourself. Once you successfully quit any habit, you look back and wonder why you were even doing it in the first place. Then you want to kick yourself for wasting time, money, and health all those years, but that's typical human nature. Just move on...

I smoked from 15 yrs old to about 26 yrs old I relapsed once but have not had a puff for 9 yrs. Just quit cold turkey and stay away from peaple who smoke for the first while. It's a lifestyle change, you have to want to quit, not just I feel like I have to, but I really wish I could keep smoking.

Mate it is 5 weeks since i last had a smoke, and it is the best thing that i have ever done, i smoked for 20 years so it is not easy, but little things are helping me along, i went to the pub and noticed that friends SMELL horrible, i used to smell like that, my food tastes better and smells better, i will live approx 30 years longer, i do not feel like a social outcast no more, i can go to a restaurant/cinema without worrying about going outside for a smoke, i could go on for hours but in the end the decision is yours, make the right one and in no time you will notice the benefits, good luck and if you need any help just call me and i will give you all the help that i can.

To me, the thread below is like having a bucked naked cheerleading squad by your side the whole way through encouraging you to quit.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45509&highlight=quit+smoking

But all joking aside, everybody's advice and experience in this thread is a good read for me, of course, still smoking about 4-6 cigs a day but it is incentive for me to say the least.

And good luck, IMO cold turkey has to be the way to go, but if you're not ready to quit atleast you're cutting back.

The only technique that i have used is willpower, as long as you have that i think you will be ok.

I started smoking at 15 and was going through 2 1/2 to 3 packs of KROOLs a day when I quit at age 32.
I'd tried to quit a few times with little success. Finally, in bed with a bad cold, I truly realized what I was doing to myself and threw the rest of my cigarettes in the trash. After returning to bed, I thought about all those good butts in the ashtrays and how I'd probably fish one out in the morning. I got up and dumped the ashtrays. For good measure I dumped the catbox on the whole lot - no dumpster diving now!
It did the trick. Tic Tacs helped me through the first few months. In short order I enjoyed a better sense of taste and smell - lower BP, too! I even had a cleaner car since I used some of the newly freed cash for regular detailing.

I wish you success as you endeavor to quit.

I have found that I do not miss the nicotine as much as the habbit! Strange as it sounds, I had to find that out for myself. I started to feel my pack-o-day plus habbit at my house. I always got to my my truck and remembered my keys were in my office, three floors up! Going up three flights makes you feel the smoking!

For the last two weeks, I have cut my smoking by two-thirds. I will take a drag every third or forth hit. Having a cig in one hand is turning to be more of a prop than anything. In the last week, I have not felt as winded as before while running up my stairs.

If you don't mind me asking, what prompted you to start again after quitting for 2 years? I ask because my wife and I quit 1 1/2 years ago and now they completely repulse us.

I was a pack and a half/day smoker for about 10 years and I quit a couple of years ago - finally successful after 4 attempts.

Cold turkey made me utterly homicidal
    Zyban - did nothing
    The patch - did nothing

What finally worked was 4mg Nicorette whenever I had the craving - really took the edge off. Also, being forced to stand outside in a blizzard to get my fix due to no smoking indoors laws allowed me to reflect upon the stupidity of my addiction.

It may take a few attempts but stick with it because it's worth it. Just tell yourself that there is no way that a chemical addiction is stronger than you are.

Now when I pass the smokers outside the doors of my office building I am totally revolted by the habit and I can't believe I did that for almost 10 years!

To tell you the truth I don't even know. It was the same day of graduation from bootcamp and I decided I would buy a pack of smokes. It does not even make sense to me to this day.

I tell ya, my idea is really working well. I can go though 3/4 a pack a day, but inhaling only 25-30% of the time. I have a ton more energy and I sleep better.

If nothing works for you, I'll get the JU-JU out!
